Seventeen area bookstores participating in April's regional passport program

Independent Bookstore Day, organized by the American Booksellers Association, was established to highlight the value of the independent bookstore community.
RACINE — Independent Bookstore Day is April 25, and to celebrate, 17 bookstores in southeast Wisconsin and northeast Illinois are participating in this year’s regional passport program during the month of April.
The New Cafe, a restaurant serving brunch and lunch food, officially opened its doors Friday, July 11, bringing a taste of Mexico City to Downtown Racine.
One Stop Shop Thrift, Downtown Racine's new store, will open this Saturday. The store will sell a variety of goods, including clothing, at affordable prices.
Arrow Smoothies & Cafe, 424 Main St., opened Monday, April 7. It offers a variety of smoothies as well as açaí and smoothie bowl, all of which are made from real fruit.
The shop will sell a curated selection of contemporary cottons, African and Asian prints, cross-stitch embroidery and supplies, and specialty notions. It also will host trunk shows, monthly clubs for makers and small-group textile art classes.
