SOMERS — Village officials are considering their options in the wake of a failed referendum to help fund additional EMTs and firefighters.
Town of Dover residents also voted on a municipal referendum.
The April 7 ballot included referendums for Trevor-Wilmot Consolidated Grade School, Twin Lakes School District and Wheatland J1 School District.
Based on results from the Kenosha County Clerk’s Office, Wheatland’s referendum passed, while the Trevor-Wilmot and Twin Lakes school district referendums did not.

Members of the Lake Geneva City Council’s Public Works Committee unanimously approved a $580,258 bid from Asphalt Contractors in Union Grove to work on the city’s 2026 street improvement program. The bid still has to be voted on by the full City Council. The program is set to include road improvement work on Cook Street, Wrigley Drive, Host Drive and Wrigley Drive, as well as stop sign installation near the intersection of Dodge Street and Broad Street. Representatives from Asphalt Contractors proposed a total of bid of $660,418 which included asphalt and stormwater improvement work on an alley between Cook Street and Madison Street, but city officials have decided to remove that project from the street improvement program.
A public safety referendum will be on the ballot for Somers’ residents to vote on.

Lake Geneva officials are considering adopting a speed bump policy to help slow down traffic in residential neighborhoods. As part of the policy, residents could request to have a speed bump installed on their street, which would be reviewed by city staff. Lake Geneva currently has a speed bump policy related to alleyways. Members of the Lake Geneva City Council’s Public Works Committee discussed the issue during their March 23 meeting. They narrowly approved to send the item to the full City Council for further review and discussion.
Kenosha County is ready for Tuesday's spring election, local officials said Thursday.
Lake Geneva Mayor Todd Krause presented David Wingate, co-owner of Flat Iron Tap, with a certificate of recognition during the March 23 Lake Geneva City Council for performing the Heimlich maneuver on a customer during an emergency situation in October 2025. Krause said Wingate’s actions allowed the customer to resume dining and not having to receive additional medical assistance.
Lake Geneva City Council members approve revised plat and relocation order on Highway 50/Main Street to accommodate a proposed 10-foot-wide path that is set to be constructed between the entrance of the Hillmoor property and North Edwards Boulevard along Highway 50. The initial plan was to install a sidewalk in that area but city officials have determined that the path would be more conducive to pedestrian traffic. City officials wanted to approve the revised plat before the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s Highway 50/Main Street reconstruction project, which is scheduled to be conducted in 2027 and 2028.
