Lake Geneva could use leftover funds for additional projects

Lake Geneva could use leftover funds for additional projects

Lake Geneva officials are considering using leftover funds to complete extra projects or purchase additional equipment by the end the year. City representatives recently learned that Lake Geneva has about $645,000 in leftover capital funds. Some of the projects that are being considered include purchasing a fire safety trailer for about $224,000; establishing a K9 program for the Lake Geneva Police Department for about $62,922; installing an additional columbarium at Oakhill Cemetery for about $26,340; installing security cameras near city wells and water towers for about $19,800 and purchasing a utility vehicle for the Parks Department for about $40,000. The projects and programs have been included in the city’s 2027 budget but could be completed by the end of the year with the additional funding. Members of the Lake Geneva City Council discussed the proposed projects and equipment during their June 22 meeting. Several of the alders agree that several of the projects and equipment are needed. The council members are scheduled to vote on the items during their July 13 meeting. City officials have until the end the year to use the majority of the leftover spending.

Music organization denied complementary use of Riviera

Representatives from nonprofit music organization Midwest Young Artists Conservatory in Highwood, Illinois were denied a request to have complementary use of the Riviera ballroom, 812 Wrigley Drive in Lake Geneva, for their holiday concerts, which are scheduled to be held at 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 20. Lake Geneva City Council members denied the request on June 22 by a 5-2 vote with alders Linda Frame and Joel Hoiland voting “no.” Midwest Young Artists officials now will have to pay the $1,000 nonprofit rental rate as well as a $600 for staff costs to use the ballroom for the event. Several alders indicated that are in favor of the group performing at the Riviera ballroom but feel they should pay the rental rate as other nonprofit organizations. Members of the Midwest Young Artists Conservancy performed similar holiday concerts at the Riviera ballroom last December, which attracted about 700 people. The group has performed several other concerts in Lake Geneva. The Midwest Young Artists Conservancy offers orchestra, jazz, choral and music chamber programs for youth in kindergarten-12th grade.
