Since the Universities of Wisconsin started shuttering two-year branch campuses in 2023 amid steep enrollment declines, counties that own the buildings and land have been left to regroup and decide what’s next for the properties.
Richland County is examining the quality of the buildings on the former UW-Platteville branch campus in Richland Center in a feasibility study. One building has been sold to the Richland School District, which opened a charter school.
The former UW-Oshkosh at Fond du Lac campus has been divvied up for various community purposes. “It’s been a relief watching it develop and see what’s become of it — it’s a great asset for our community,” County Executive Sam Kaufman said.
UW-Platteville Baraboo Sauk County operations will be consolidated into the Aural M. Umhoefer Building, leaving four campus buildings available for use by other entities.
