A proposed 49-acre truck dealership has cleared its first hurdle to development in Somers. The dealership, which would be located at 1914 120th Ave. west of Interstate 94, was advanced to the Plan Commission by the Somers Intergovernmental Commission on Tuesday.
The Plan Commission approved new developments including a truck dealership and a manufacturing building for IEA.
Property owners on 95 parcels in the village can soon expect to pay nearly $1.6 million in special assessments to help fund a $3.6 million water main project planned for two segments along 12th Street (Highway E).
SOMERS — Shoreland Lutheran High School has broken ground on a major classroom addition.
Golden Oil, a petroleum company, first bought the property for its new Somers Market fueling station at 11302 12th St. in 2021. Development of other businesses planned for the plaza followed and all of them were opened to the public for the first time on Wednesday, Jan. 14.

The second phase of a townhome development in the Village of Somers could be completed by next year. The Savannah at Pike Creek, a two-phase development, will add 336-units of housing to Somers when it is fully built out.

The U.S. Senate Committee on Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs which oversees the U.S Postal Service Operations is considering a bipartisan bill requiring the USPS to assign unique ZIP codes to 75 communities across more than 20 states.
The charge would apply to all Somers' residents and not just water users.
