The subzero temperatures and low wind speeds have finally forced Lake Mendota to relent.

This was the view Monday of Lake Mendota looking toward Maple Bluff from near James Madison Park. The lake was officially declared frozen as of Monday, according to the State Climatology Office.
While other parts of Lake Mendota may have open water, the State Climatology Office considers the lake to be frozen when a boat can no longer be rowed between Picnic Point, pictured here in the distance, and Maple Bluff.
