Some fascinating dichotomies are going to play out for the University of Wisconsin football program over the next five weeks.

Wisconsin football fans see program turning after winning back Axe from Minnesota
Victory for Fickell and Co.
Congratulations to the Wisconsin Badgers on bringing home the Axe! Tanner Mordecai had a great game with the help of a physical offensive line, and Braelon Allen finished with 26 carries for 165 yards and two TD’s in possibly his last game.

A glorious day

2. Claw back Axe? CHECK.
3. Bounce Minnie from bowl eligibility? CHECK.
4. Rupture Boat Hull? CHECK.
5. Do it all at THEIR stadium? CHECK.

All hail the Dairy Raid
The Badgers played their most complete game of the year. Offensive Coordinator Phil Longo leaned heavily on the run game and played Old School Wisconsin football. The team brings Paul Bunyan's Axe back home AND they knock the Gophers out a post-season bowl!

Winning season clinched
Beating Minnesota is always great no matter how the season has gone.

Gratifying, some may say
1) The Axe is coming back to Madison.
— Madtown Alum (@madtownalum) November 26, 2023
2) Denied the Gophers a bowl game.
A very satisfying win.
Line of scrimmage controlled
It wasn’t perfect or even among the top level of expectations for a Badger team, but it was the best the O-line has played all season

Beginning of a long streak?
A fun win. Once again they deferred the opening kickoff and spotted the opponent 7 points. Sheesh. Great adjustments followed but Gophers are not good. PJ’s team in decline. Fickell’s gonna keep that axe for a long time!

Best wishes for Braelon
Braelon Allen the past 2 weeks has been the difference. Hope he gets drafted to a good spot in the NFL and two trophy wins is a great way to end the season. #OnWisconsin

Trending upward
Good for morale. Good for recruiting. Boosters will love a win vs Minnesota. Long way to go though for the program overall. Rough year. Badgers aren’t in the same universe of Michigan or Ohio State. Being competitive with Ohio State has to be the goal when they hired Luke Fickell

Positive turnaround
It’s a good end to a bit of a rocky season. I think that the last couple weeks were a bit of a gut check and they responded. Next year will be interesting to see what this staff does with a whole offseason and cycle

Fickell gets his flowers
LF saved this team from a burning dumpster fire. While it wasn’t the season we wanted, he did a hell of a coaching job the last two weeks.

Revenge and redemption
Happy for the guys who were there when Badgers first lost the axe after so many years. A little redemption is nice

Not done yet
I was impressed with the patience Longo showed to stay with the run. Allen isn’t 100% but in back to back games showed grit…same with Mordecai. OL played mistake free FB and defense had some key turnovers…great way to end a tough first season.

Do as you please
Can I blame the NW and Indiana losses on injuries and say it was otherwise a decent but not great season?

Big wins for the program
A great way to finish the season. Fickell got back what PC lost and in the process showed us a glimpse of what the future might hold for Badger fans. #OnWisconsin

A great point
Can’t help but wonder what happens with the season if Mordecai doesn’t get hurt, but love that the axe is back where it belongs

Sweet to have the axe back in Madison! Better yet to beat Fleck!
— Gary Brilowski (@gbrilo) November 25, 2023
Big letdown in a macro outlook
Nice finish to the season. The defense causing two big turnovers to clinch it in the fourth quarter. Disappointing that they couldn’t take advantage of the worst Big Ten West division in history this year though
— Kirk Eastenson (@Eastyfor3) November 26, 2023
Indeed he was
Mordecai is very good, tough, and poised. Wish we had him longer. Def front was great.

Leadership key for culture
What a change from the Northwestern game to now and Tanner is a big reason why! He brought the confidence the Badgers needed. Kudos to our coaching staff too for incorporating the run more!

Positive trends for Badgers fans
The Axe is back home. PJ's season is over. Badgers get a month of extra practice. Badgers trending in the right direction. 📈
