WATERTOWN — The Watertown School District has prohibited Watertown High School from performing “Flashdance” as its spring musical, following a decision to ban a piece of instrumental music from a band concert this spring.

Interim Watertown school superintendent James Feil said the decision to block the musical “was a judgment call,” adding, “we've decided against this initial selection, but there's plenty of time.”
Although they only learned that “Flashdance” was the planned spring musical a couple of weeks ago, student performers and their parents began making preparations to audition, including in some cases arranging for voice lessons.
