Nearly three dozen faculty at UW-Milwaukee’s branch campuses will lose their jobs after the UW Board of Regents voted Thursday to use for the first time a decade-old policy allowing universities to lay off faculty members.

Tait Szabo, a philosophy professor for the former UW-Milwaukee Washington campus, said his layoff would likely be the end of his academic career. "There aren't exactly a lot of tenure-track jobs in philosophy in the Milwaukee area" and he couldn't see uprooting his family, he said.
