Jona Eliason's grandfather, Carl Eliason, invented the single-rider snowmobile in 1924. Other models would follow, some of which are displayed at Jona's hardware store in Sayner. However, the Vilas County community has been quiet this winter as snowmobile trails have not yet opened due to a lack of snow.
