RACINE COUNTY — After serving for 16 years as Racine County sheriff, Christopher Schmaling announced Friday that he will not seek reelection in 2026.

Racine County Sheriff’s K-9 Friday is seated in a school gym with Deputy Ed Drewitz, his handler. This team was featured in the 2016 Racine County Area K-9 units’ calendar, which went on sale in October 2015.
