As the University of Wisconsin men’s basketball team broke from its end-of-practice huddle Monday, two of its reserve guards — freshman John Blackwell and junior Kamari McGee — were not donning the team’s red and white Under Armour practice uniforms.

Wisconsin men's basketball fans find humor in 'worst loss of season, so far'
Some share the sentiment
I’m choosing to view this as a comedy rather than a tragedy.

OK, that was funny
It’s clear this team has unfinished business from losing in the Final 4 of the NIT tournament last year and they’re playing the way they need to in order to get back.

Deflating, and injuries haven't helped
Blowing that 18-point second half lead at Nebraska really did a number on this team. Haven't been remotely the same since.

March Sadness
If only Greg Gard was as good of a head coach as the Madison media tells the fans. 2 wins in NCAA tournament since 2017 and somehow he is treated like a great HC.

Most teams do
Can’t wait for the Badgers to get another shot at them on a neutral floor in B10 Tourney…if it happens.
— Marty Steindl (@M_Steindl) February 10, 2024
Horrible performance by the Badgers—yes it is hard to win on the road, but this was an embarrassment. Gard has these stretches every year.

What's the fix?
Season being lost. This team should not be in the top 25 and without an immediate correction, you might as well close the books on the season pretty quickly.
— Kelly Ford (@kellylford) February 10, 2024
That list seems important
Gard is fine when things are going well, but he's a brutal at righting the ship, because he:
— Nick P Bassill (@NickPBassill) February 10, 2024
-doesn't coach with intensity, so players don't play with it
-has no feel for situational rotations
-can't design a timeout play
There are worse songs to have in your head
The song "Free Fallin" playing in my head. So disappointed in the overall energy and body language this team showed today. It was almost like they didn't even want to play. From a potential one seed to a potential bubble team. Some serious soul searching needed quick.
— Scott L (@CCSO228) February 10, 2024
Certainly a bad trend
23-90 from 3pt over the last four games, tells you everything you need to know.
— B y R O N (@ByronGotGame) February 10, 2024
Over before it started, sorta
They looked beat from the opening tip. Lacking fire/ toughness today and what seems like a broken record with Gard teams.. consistent scoring.. again. Big gut check time ahead as if they can’t get it together, this could get uglier. Just seem so out of sync vs. two weeks ago
— Paul Bergum (@paul_bergum) February 10, 2024
The defense was horrific
CE3 and Storr kept the Badgers today. But, 33% FG, 25% 3-ball, no D spells no W’s. Not Gone Girl but Gone TEAM.
— Paul Yochum'63 (@PaulYochum63) February 10, 2024
An understated element of the Rutgers loss
Coaching differential was big too.
— Nick P Bassill (@NickPBassill) February 10, 2024
Rutgers knew WI was down 3 ball-handlers after the 2nd Klesmit foul, so they correctly pressed like crazy. Can anyone imagine Gard doing that in the reverse position? It's a microcosm of Gard as a coach.
It's been a far tumble
From #6 and up 18 in second Half at Nebraska to this…fireable.
— UWOX95 (@wpscmsn) February 10, 2024
Rutgers' shooting was a key to separation
Rutgers came out pressing the Badgers and led wire-to-wire handing Wisconsin their fourth straight loss. The Scarlet Knights were the more physical team. Rutgers 10-17 on their 3’s. This team has regressed greatly and questions about where the program is are needed.
— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) February 10, 2024
It's appearing that way
The offensive success earlier this year was clearly done via smoke and mirrors. They are the same team as last year except they can’t play defense. Also clear that Greg Gard doesn’t have an answer for it.
— John Newhouse (@jnewhouse1980) February 10, 2024
Sounds familiar
Gard is a nice guy and a fine coach but not the right coach to elevate the program to where it can be. Both statements can be true.
— Todd J Ewen (@ToddJEwen) February 10, 2024
The turnovers were problematic and mindless
For the 1st time this year, I’m worried. We came out very flat and uninspired. We made poor decisions and bad execution. Lapses in attention, poor defensive rebounding, and ice cold shooting made it worse. Rutgers came out aggressive causing bad turnovers and creating open looks.
— Doug Schulz (@SchulzDoug) February 10, 2024
A weird reversal
What is going on with the team that had so much energy and synergy just a few weeks ago?! I know their are stretches in a season you have to get through, but man, this feels more like last year's team.

It's that time of year
The Badgers look like a very tired basketball team.
— Bobby Hock (@theHockk) February 10, 2024
What a tough time that was
This feels like the Illinois football game the week before Chryst got fired. No life . Same swoon as last year.
— TL (@tbone1934) February 10, 2024
They need him healthy for defensive purposes
Missing Blackwell big time. Balls gotta go thru the post. Tough to beat a team that shoots 65% from deep
— John Barry (@The_real_JB__) February 10, 2024
It is February
It’s Groundhog Day for this program. Start the season out meh, win a couple nice games in the middle, wheels fall off in February/March. Wash. Rinse. Repeat.
— Petey (@PetermanRyan) February 10, 2024
Clinging to hope
Final four team lost 5 outta 6 around same time. I’m still a believer
— Nate in Appleton (@NateAndree) February 10, 2024
Missing two rotational guards didn't help
Wisconsin needs to figure out their defensive rotations. They are giving way too much separation to perimeter players and aren’t communicating on screens. Per usual, Carter Gilmore looked lost & remained a liability. Why is chucky hesitating so much on the offensive end?
— JLC (@caspert1013) February 10, 2024
Core has been silenced
Starts with chucky…needs to be more aggressive on both ends. Chucky, crowl, wahl and max had 13 shots total late into second half. Not sure what happened but we look like we are playing half the speed of other teams. Chucky needs to create more..make defense adjust to him
— aarondentz (@aarondentz) February 10, 2024
Looks to Green Bay
When will Gard and Chucky understand that the point guard needs to score on a team that has just one legit scorer. This losijg streak will continue until we have a couple more play like D1 players.
— HOUND10 (@reinkej10) February 10, 2024
And a former Wisconsin commit
turnovers, rebounding, no inside scoring. At least I can watch Green Bay play now.
— Brad Affeldt (@BA_14) February 10, 2024
They've proven how to win
Hustle is there but too much hurry.
— Fred Melius MD (@fmelius) February 10, 2024
Teams figured out their code and they can’t seem to adjust. Rutgers isn’t bad. They hit everything today. 60% from 3.
Badgers need to take a breath and Gard needs new strategies. This talent can win.
Who ya gonna call!?
Gulp. That was ugly. February has been brutal. For the obvious question, we call upon Matt Foley ... pic.twitter.com/iFMfvZmU8A
