Former U.S. Sen. Herb Kohl’s foundation is donating $30 million to UW-Madison’s La Follette School of Public Affairs to modernize Music Hall, which will be renamed Herb Kohl Hall in honor of the late politician and businessman.
The exterior of Herb Kohl Hall, formerly Music Hall, will remain intact, and its stone veneer, which in places is facing “significant structural deterioration,” is going to be repaired, according to UW Board of Regents materials.
Herb Kohl Philanthropies has gifted La Follette School of Public Affairs $30 million, dedicating $10 million to support ongoing programming and $20 million to the renovation of its new building, previously known as Music Hall.
The $30 million Herb Kohl’s foundation donated to renovate Music Hall for the La Follette School of Public Affairs is so monumental, “I almost can’t put it into words,” La Follette Director Susan Webb Yackee said.
The auditorium space in Music Hall will become a collaborative and teaching space for students and faculty after the building is renovated and renamed Herb Kohl Hall.
