SOMERS — Somers village residents will vote Tuesday on whether or not to approve a $1.3 million referendum to help the village hire and retain eight additional firefighters/EMTs.
A proposed 49-acre truck dealership has cleared its first hurdle to development in Somers. The dealership, which would be located at 1914 120th Ave. west of Interstate 94, was advanced to the Plan Commission by the Somers Intergovernmental Commission on Tuesday.
Property owners on 95 parcels in the village can soon expect to pay nearly $1.6 million in special assessments to help fund a $3.6 million water main project planned for two segments along 12th Street (Highway E).
Golden Oil, a petroleum company, first bought the property for its new Somers Market fueling station at 11302 12th St. in 2021. Development of other businesses planned for the plaza followed and all of them were opened to the public for the first time on Wednesday, Jan. 14.
The Village of Somers has posted a busy year of growth and development in 2025. It continues to work with several developers looking to bring new housing to the village.
On December 9, the Somers Village Board received community survey results showing a majority of Somers residents would support a $1,300,000 increase to the property tax levy to fund an additional eight full-time fi refi ghter/paramedics to improve fi re and emergency medical services.
