Big bang: Fireworks will start about 9:30 p.m. on July 4, set off in HarborPark and visible all along the lakefront.
Before the Kenosha Pops Concert Band’s July 1 concert at the Pennoyer Park band shell, the Rambler Recreation Band will perform, starting at 6:15 p.m.
The Kenosha Unified School District summer band, made up of 108 students who just completed seventh or eighth grade, is directed by Matt Maccari and Nate Larsen – who both play in the Pops Band.
The two directors met as sixth-grade band students “and we both marched in Rambler Band ourselves,” Maccari said. “Our partnership works out great, and we’re happy to see so many kids participating in Rambler Band.”
The Rambler Band will perform a separate program Wednesday, playing four concert pieces – “Triumphant Fanfare” by Richard Saucedo, “The Wolves of Alaska” by Rossano Galante, “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring” by Ralph Ford and “Razzmatazz” by Matthew R. Putnam – along with the band’s marching tunes, “September” by Earth, Wind & Fire and “Evil Ways” by Carlos Santana.
Rambler Band has two more performances this summer: July 9 at Indian Trail High School and July 13 at Bradford High School, as part of the Band Boosters’ Ice Cream Social event. The group will also march in the July 4 Somers parade and the July 12 Bristol Progress Days parade.
