Susan Crawford’s interest in law began while growing up in Chippewa Falls and caring for a younger sister with disabilities — an experience the Dane County Circuit Court judge who is now running for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court said helped shape her desire to solve problems and protect people.
Before running for state Supreme Court, Susan Crawford served as chief legal counsel to former Democratic Gov. Jim Doyle and worked in the state Department of Corrections and Department of Natural Resources. She is currently a Dane County Circuit Court judge.
Crawford said she's most proud of her work representing teachers in a challenge to Act 10 and another case filed by Planned Parenthood seeking to protect abortion rights in the state. “I was fighting for the fundamental rights of regular Wisconsinites — teachers and certainly women and their families," Crawford said.
“This is no way to pick judges in this fragile moment in our democracy."
