On April 19, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers made the first of five 2023 visits to Walworth County, visiting and touring Beulah Family Homestead in Elkhorn to discuss their sustainable farming efforts. Created by former Wisconsin Badger Basketball player Marcus Landry, Beulah Family Homestead is receiving a Local Food Purchase Assistance Program grant through the Wisconsin Department of Agriculture, Trade and Consumer Protection (DATCP), funded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture, that aims to strengthen local food systems, support Wisconsin farmers, and distribute fresh, nutritious foods to underserved communities.
A veteran former educator and longtime Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction State School Superintendent, Gov. Tony Evers (center) found himself back in school Monday, May 1 as he made an hour-long visit to the 1,800-student Delavan-Darien School District at Grades 5-8 Phoenix Middle School in Delavan. As part of his visit, Evers, seen here with sixth-grader Khloe Kaiser (left) and ninth-grader Emily Nova-Ortiz (right), met with student volunteers comprising the district’s HOPE Squad peer-to-peer suicide prevention program, which encompasses 68 specially-trained elementary, middle and high school students. Evers made the stop as part of a statewide tour during the May observance of Mental Health Awareness Month, visiting students and schools and meeting with children’s mental health professionals and advocates to highlight mental and behavioral health and well-being initiatives in his proposed biennial 2023-2025 state budget, including a proposed $270 million in permanent, ongoing funding for the “Get Kids Ahead” initiative, created by Evers last year to expand school-based mental health services.

Kikkoman’s Walworth plant, which began operations in June 1973, is the highest-producing soy sauce production facility in the world, shipping its products in containers ranging from its iconic red-capped, teardrop-shaped 5 ounce dispenser bottles to 20,000-gallon rail tankers. The Walworth plant employs more than 200, operating seven days a week. The proclamation presentation at the Grand Geneva Resort Conference Center in Lake Geneva came during the 2023 Wisconsin-U.S.-Japan Economic Development Conference, sponsored by Kikkoman Foods, Inc., the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp. The theme of the 2023 conference was “Achieving Sustainable Global Economic Growth in an Era of Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Volatility.”
On Sept. 6, Wisconsin Gov. Tony Evers made the fourth of his five 2023 stops in Walworth County, visiting the University of Wisconsin-Whitewater to help kick off the 2023-2024 school year. Evers visited with staff on campus and highlighted his comprehensive workforce plan, which included an additional more than $100 million investment in the state’s higher education institutions, including more than $40 million to support the Wisconsin Technical College System and an additional $66.4 million for the UW System to help recruit, train and retain talent in an effort to bolster the state’s workforce.

Several businesses received grants through the state's Main Street Bounceback Grant Program.
