Minnesota-based CHS will begin construction this month in Evansville on a $700 million soybean processing facility. The plant will have the ability to process 80 million bushels of soybeans a year into oil and meal and is scheduled to open in fall 2028.
There will be more grain trucks on Highway M coming and going from Evansville by 2028. The cornfield at left will soon be home to a 300-acre development for a soybean processing plant by CHS.
A massive oval spur off the Union Pacific tracks would consist of three side-by-side tracks and be long enough to hold a full train of 110 cars for the CHS soybean processing plant in Evansville. That type of setup would eliminate the need to decouple cars and would prevent prolonged blocking of rail crossings, according to city officials in Evansville.
