The R&D facility known as the Realta Forge is set to occupy about 250,000 of the 2 million square feet of building space once used by Oscar Mayer, according to the property’s owners, who want to see the site become a tech hub anchored by companies like Realta Fusion.
The former Oscar Mayer campus, along Packers Avenue on Madison’s East Side, has been mostly vacant since the plant closed in 2017. Residential development has picked up in the area in recent years, with The View and The Victoria at Huxley Yards, at left, both opening earlier this year.
