SPRING GREEN, WIS. — My wife and I stopped talking to each other two hours into our three-hour self-guided tour of the House on the Rock in Spring Green, a small town west of Madison, Wisconsin. The displays had grown so large, elaborate and unexpected they shocked us into silence.

The House on the Rock includes themed bathrooms like this woman’s bathroom with a wall of glass vases lighted from behind.
Alex Jordan designed and decorated large pots to use as planters throughout the grounds of the House on the Rock. The design is similar to a pot owned by his mother in the 1960s. The slithering lizards are another example where a simple pot, no matter how large, was “never enough” for creative Jordan.
One of several giant chandeliers in the Organ Room at the House on the Rock, this one is made up of several smaller chandeliers. Jordan had plans to make the top of the light his office where he could sit at his desk and observe passersby as they moved underneath.
At 85 feet in diameter, and 35 feet high, the revolving carousel at the House of the Rock takes up a visitor’s entire field of vision as it revolves to an ominous orchestral soundtrack that seems to warn an impending crime is about to occur. Perhaps the music is so foreboding because it is a disappointment when visitors learn it is not a ride to be ridden. Photo Barbara Winnerman

Now the question is does someone with the Cardinals screen your mail or is there a reaction shot of your opening a box and just seeing claws?
