BadgerExtra reporters Colten Bartholomew and Jake Kocorowski break down the Badgers' matchup with New Mexico State and discuss the lack of energy players felt last week against Washington State
Do you think the offensive line coach of the Badgers is capable of turning this line around and making them a solid West Contender? Or are the OL players themselves not good enough.
— JMW123 (@jmw1235) September 12, 2022
Paul Chryst has had the luxury of a premier backfield since taking over as head coach. Do you think having Corey Clement, JT and now Braelon Allen play a role in not developing premier QB play and elevating the pass game cuz they can almost count on a RB to bail out the offense?
— Fred Melius MD (@fmelius) September 12, 2022
Should Chryst hire a full time special teams coach not named Chris Haering?

How long do you think the leash is for Chryst? Especially with someone like Leonhard waiting in the wings.
— Jon Corbett (@Jon_Corbett) September 11, 2022
Hope you’re well Jim!
Chryst has a .650 winning percentage from 2018-present and has lost the axe game twice. What would it take for him to feel some heat from McIntosh?
— Bill_Woj (@Slough_Creek) September 11, 2022
Since Chryst’s first years culminating with a 12-1 record the team has somewhat regressed. 2 of the last 3 recruiting classes were ranked on the top 25. And here we are no better or worse than 8-4 or 9-3. For a program that espouses big ten championships what’s realistically next
— Fred Ehle (@FredEhle) September 11, 2022
Everyone wants Jim Leonhard as the next HC, but do you think it would be more wise to go after a more offensive-minded coach?
— Michael Paduano (@greenwave70) September 11, 2022
It’s well-known that COVID adversely affected recruiting (e.g., campus visits). It likely also affected player development. Would you buy that, because Wisconsin is a developmental program, the COVID impact is an under-appreciated part of the recent underperformance?
— Badger Local (@BadgerLocal) September 12, 2022
What's more surprising to you the lack of ability to finish or the mental miscues?
— Peter (@88pjs) September 11, 2022
Can you pinpoint when the Badger program flipped away from one that didn’t beat itself with mistakes, penalties, and turnovers to one that now often does, & what may have led to this? Seems almost routine to lose in this way (as you wrote).
— Chris Davis (@cdavis20000) September 11, 2022
Why has the recent teams (last 2-3 years, struggled to play clean FB…I understand QBs equal Int’s…but the fumbles and penalties are troubling. Just poor execution in general.
— Todd (@pilprin) September 12, 2022
Do you agree that the playbook against the UW run strategy is well known as each game seems to be the same? It looked like when they pushed the ball downfield the offense looked better on Sat and then in the 2H, they reverted to run like the last 2 years. Y can’t they adapt?
— BadgerFan (@divot516) September 11, 2022
I responded to another tweet on Saturday with this but here goes, What roll is Bobby Engram actually filling? it seems like Chryst still has full control of the offense as it hasn't seemed any different than years past.
— Jeff Bertrand (@KappaKid83) September 12, 2022
How does Chryst get more team speed while not completely abandoning a strong running program. Other teams are just becoming more athletic and it keeps getting worse.
— 7th Inning Stretch (@finleyr27) September 11, 2022
Top to bottom, is this the best receiver room since 2011?
— Badger Local (@BadgerLocal) September 12, 2022
Early impressions of the receiving/tight end core through two weeks?
— Luke Murphy (@LukeMrph2) September 11, 2022
How young/I experienced is this offensive line compared to others. They all seem to make some good plays but not all 5 of them on the same play. Hope time fixes this
— Joe Devine (@joedevine87) September 11, 2022
If Calvaruso isn’t 100% shouldn’t Van Dyke attempt FG’s?

With Frost being fired, who is Big 10 coach on the biggest hot seat?

Your updated predictions for the Packers and Badgers after two very disappointing games?
— Keith Schmidt (@madtownkeith) September 12, 2022
Who is worse this football season: Badgers or Packers?
— BethAnn Meier (@BAMeier) September 11, 2022
And yes, I realize this question is coming less than half way through the Packers game (so maybe they’ll pull themselves together at half-time) but this is very ugly.
— BethAnn Meier (@BAMeier) September 11, 2022
After awful 1st game of season for 2nd consecutive season, time to start playing the starters in the preseason?

Badgers fans on Twitter blast Wisconsin's play in loss to Washington State
Laughing through the pain
— BuckAround (@Buck_Around) September 10, 2022
Running in place
At least we aren’t Notre Dame , WI fans it’s time to get rid of a complacent coach and program that is just ok with 10-3 and a good bowl game! When usc and ucla join the 10 we will become northwestern
— Scott Davis (@chilid19) September 10, 2022
Not another re-run
This team is probably not a Top 25 team and got stuck with that label before the season started. Two more losses in Big 10 play, an overall okay season. Rinse and repeat.
— Sam Zwick (@SamZwick) September 10, 2022
Comes with the territory
Wisconsin lost to a better coached team who had his players ready to play. One loss should not have fans calling for Paul Chryst being fired. He recently received an extension. I understand the shock and disappointment but that’s college football.
— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) September 10, 2022
Line looks lackluster
This line is the most talented (by recruiting rankings) of any in school history and it is throughly mediocre. It can't block unless it holds. Bostad better fix it fast or this will be another lost season.
— Craig Smith (@smithcp1) September 10, 2022
Hold up, wait a minute
O line probably called for holding before you got tweet out
— Mitchell Skurzewski (@MSkurzewski) September 10, 2022
More than meets the eye
Well, that was embarrassing! Missed the two TD drives; what I did see in 2d half was sad; ball handling, poor tackling. Dike(?) eyes need to be on his QB in the huddle, not the replay board. Indicators of bigger issues. Get it corrected now, or it will be a long season.

Serving up success
Is Wisconsin a volleyball school now?
— Kyle Cooper (@SportsCoop66) September 10, 2022
On the outside looking in
Meh. This program is not going to be relevant in the big picture of college football ever again. They will always be in the mix for a December bowl game somewhere but who cares.

Stop us if you've heard this one...

Can't escape sloppy play
Missed field goals came back to haunt us. And that late fumble. Ugh.

Here we go again

Grass is always greener
It’s gonna be great watching Nakia Watson score three TDs in the Rose Bowl for Wazzu.
— Drew Hansen (@Drubaru) September 10, 2022
Finding a silver lining
Proud of Mertz… he has really shown improvement. But the vaunted O-line was garbage and just way too many errors everywhere else. This one is on PC and the line.
— Mark Wolfgram (@markwwolfgram) September 10, 2022
In the eye of the beholder
Penalties, mistakes and an all-around disappointing performance. Not much positive from this one.
— Kelly Ford (@kellylford) September 10, 2022
The window's closing fast
Typical Badger football team under coached and they lose a game against a team that they clearly should have beaten. Next two games they will be 2-2 but probably will win the Big Ten west because nobody should scare us based on today’s results
— Mark Meddings (@MeddingsMark1) September 11, 2022
It was fun while it lasted
So long, optimism about the offense being improved
— Matt Hoffman (@mattyjimbob) September 10, 2022
Don't hold your breath
Maybe this loss is what it finally takes to get Chryst fired. The coaching is horrendous
— Jackie (@jlhalvy) September 10, 2022
Is the glass half empty?
Only going to get worse Jim. 6-6 at best this season. Back let’s just be Bowl eligible. Too many players losses and uninspired play. Sometimes your best is just not going to be good enough.
— Vince Schmidt Photography (@vinceschmidt9) September 10, 2022
Focus on fundamentals
Special teams poor, too many penalties, and turnovers.
— Bob Lewis (@AppletonTech) September 10, 2022
First things first
New offensive coordinator, same predictable, offense with no creativity. The head coach is the problem, but the Alumni AD will never make a change. Only one game matters the rest of the year. Get back the axe.
— Bill Vogel (@BillVogel16) September 10, 2022
A long time coming
Anyone who is surprised has not been paying attention the last few years. This is a program going in the wrong direction on the field.
— Paul Hilt (@TallPJ) September 10, 2022
Recipe for failure
Wisconsin is not good enough to win when committing that many penalties, turnovers, and missed FG.
— Troy (@tkatlanta01) September 10, 2022
Offense wasn't alone
Let’s not let the defense off the hook. WSU got the ball with 5:14 left in the game and never had to give it back.

And on that note...
