Metcalfe’s Market, a family-owned grocery retailer for 107 years, is being sold to a Michigan-based grocery wholesale and retail company. But Brat Fest will continue and the store still plans to be locally focused.
Metcalfe’s Market at Hilldale is one of three stores owned by Tim and Kevin Metcalfe. They also have stores at West Towne and in the Milwaukee suburb of Wauwatosa.
Memorabilia collected through the history of Metcalfe’s Market is displayed in the company’s offices at Hilldale in Madison. It includes the late Tom Metcalfe's signature red beret.
Blocks of Gruyere from Wood River Creamery, part of the Burnett Dairy Cooperative in Grantsburg, are displayed at Metcalfe's Market at Hilldale. Metcalfe's has made an effort over the years to promote Wisconsin food by placing road signs on products in its three stores.
