Collection: Letter writers applaud and criticize President Trump
Letters-to-the-editor about President Trump have been nearly nonstop in the Lake Geneva Regional News since Trump took office. Here is a just a sample letters we have received from both Trump supporters and critics.
To the Editor:
The Resist signs that appears on lawns or are held by participants at rallies are not a call for obstructionism or interference with the operations of government. Rather it is a call to not accept the proposal that the rich should have more money sent their way while those in poverty be given less help. Paul Ryan supports tax cuts for corporations but cuts services for the poor suggesting that those in need are not trying hard enough.
To the Editor:
Mr. Jerry Hanson's letter was quite informative as he and a minority of our nation's legal voters just don't get it! They can see white but record black, can experience down but see up. Yes, facts are indeed bothersome things, particularly to the liberal faction of our great nation.
To the Editor:
The Resist slogan of the Democratic Party has once again inspired violent attacks on Republicans and conservatives. Sen. Rand Paul, a noted conservative in Congress, was assaulted by his neighbor while mowing the lawn. There is no question this was a politically-motivated attack.
To the Editor:
We are both former members of the Lake Geneva-Badger FFA and current members of the Lake Geneva-Badger FFA Alumni. We were fortunate to be a part of such a vibrant organization that was welcoming to students of all backgrounds and interests where they could come together to learn, grow, and serve. Last weekend, President Trump was invited to speak at the 91st National FFA Convention and rather than use the opportunity to reassure the nation’s future agriculturists in a time of economic uncertainty and to encourage them to pursue their God-given talent for finding new ways to feed this country and the world, he used it as a political rally. At the convention of a student-led, nonpartisan organization, he encouraged the members to vote for Republican candidates in the upcoming midterm elections. He even went so far as to invite to Republican congressional candidates up to the stage and maligned lifelong civil servants to the next generation of American leaders, turning a student development and community service event into a rally for his policies with such time-honored Trumpisms as “very unfair trade deals” and “we protect countries with our military and they don’t pay us.”
To the Editor:
Open Letter to President Trump.
To the editor:
Mr. Kristoffersen, I would think your letter to the editor was before the vote to acquit President Trump. Your bullet points in last Thursday's paper were nothing but garbage.
“I think my language is very nice,” President Donald Trump said.
All too frequently, Mr. President, it is not.
To the Editor:
It seems that Dave Yost has joined your group of delusional Liberal Democrats. A few weeks ago, you had Gordon Ammon writing about how we should have total gun abolishment. I’ve hear numerous arguments about that, but I have to say it was the first time I ever heard anyone say we should abolish guns because they were not mentioned in the original Constitution.
To the editor:
Nancy Swatek’s Jan. 2 letter to the Lake Geneva Regional News, “Trump Whistle-blower Is A Coward,” attacked the whistle-blower for obeying protocol and reporting possible misconduct by the president to his superiors. Swatek claims the whistle-blower is a spy and a coward who decided to help Democrats take down this president.
To the editor:
This is my first letter to the editor. I cannot sit by and take it anymore. For the last three years there has been ZERO coverage from the left concerning the record highs in the stock market until it recently began falling. Now they can't stop talking about it and blaming the president for it, it is NOT his fault.
To the editor:
Our current president has kicked off his new campaign strategy today. Instead of leading us out of the current crisis, instead of protecting us, our president is pushing us Americans away from the horror and toward his new phrase, “We gotta get back”.
To the editor:
OK, OK, Mr. Kristoffersen, we get it. You don't like Trump.
To the editor:
Anarchy — the state of society where there is no law or supreme power. Total absence or suspension of government, chaos, the utter negation of law and order. And the lunatics are running the asylum. These people first wanted to abolish ICE. Now it's defund and get rid of the police. We are in trouble, people. Whatever they are asking for today, even if they got it, tomorrow it will be something else. Nothing will satisfy this mob. This is a mob, these are riots, and they intend to destroy a lot of property and steal whatever they can as long as they can get away with it. Oh, I know some people really intended all of this to be peaceful protests. That idea has been hijacked by people with a whole other plan. Sadly, they don't even realize they have been used. Or, maybe they do. Where is there a leader in the black community who can reason with the mob?
To the editor:
We all witnessed the destruction of cities like Minneapolis, Seattle, Portland and Madison as protesters indiscriminately toppled statues, burned businesses and violently turned against police. The cry to “Defund Police” has become the mantra of the angry mob and some willing allies in the Democrat party. NBC New York reported that in just two weeks 400 officers were injured in New York City alone.
To the editor:
Good people on all sides are beginning to question the legitimacy and authority of this president.
To the editor:
Finally, the sun is starting to shine on the duplicity of my progressive friends when it comes to tolerance of racism. Naturally, Trump is to be shunned for his but when it comes to Joe Biden? Crickets. The double standard here is driven by moral narcissism and is stunning.
To the editor:
As a physician, watching the presentation of Donald Trump’s response to the Covid-19 pandemic at the GOP convention was infuriating. If that was all one knew, it would appear the administration responded aggressively and compassionately to the crisis — a complete fantasy.
