Check out this week's Open Jim podcast, which includes a 1-on-1 interview with Wisconsin offensive lineman Tanor Bortolini and my answers to these two featured mailbag questions:
Is the Badgers secondary as bad as it looked against Buffalo? If so, the Washington State game could get very ugly.

What changes should be made for the Cougars based on what happened last year?

Tanner Mordecai looked a lot like the previous quarterback throwing two interceptions and was uncomfortable in the pocket. With the wide receiver room full of talent, do you believe Coach Fickell and Phil Longo did not open the playbook more waiting for Big Ten play?
— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) September 4, 2023
I am certain that all we say was the tip of the spear from the Longo offense. They have work to do obviously, but things will open ip with each passing week. Your thoughts?
— Richard Philipp (@BadgerPhilly) September 4, 2023
Since the Badgers lost by 21 (based on fan reaction), how do they get this ship righted before the whole season is lost?
— Chris Davis (@cdavis20000) September 4, 2023
Would you say the Badgers did exactly what they intended: Make it difficult for the opposition to stack the box, creating an opportunity for two star running backs to run wild? Granted, not the passing stats you'd love. But a big improvement from running into a stacked box, yes?

In what world does the hired consulting firm for ‘in game experience’ think that blaring, non-stop bump music would create a home field advantage? The crowd had no chance to get involved.

Does the Athletic Dept. realize that rendering everyone in the stadium deaf is not a good strategy? Just asking for 69,000 friends….
— Average Joe (@signaturedish33) September 4, 2023
Thoughts on new game day atmosphere ? Thought is was dead because with music playing so often and loud the actual fans were never given an opportunity to cheer themselves. Not sure who gave keys to gameday to a DJ that does even know when to play/or

not play but take them away.
Will Mac apologize to fans tomorrow for the sound disaster and bush league “It’s third down” embarrassment? Start of a new era, tons of excitement, sell out crowd in the heat. And you manage to p* off the fans who support your decisions and pay your salary.
— john berg (@BadgerJohnBerg) September 4, 2023
Fact or fiction: There were more media timeouts than usual? The game took FOREVER. If fact, is this the result of the new mega TV deal the league signed and will all games take 3.5+ hours? It really was ridiculous.
— Go Pack Go (@jeffgtown) September 4, 2023
The biggest concerns on-field seem to be the complete lack of depth at tight end and on the defensive line. Is there any help coming? What’s Mullens’ timetable?
— Badger Local (@BadgerLocal) September 4, 2023
With Orzol seeming the more consistent option at Libero, is Wrobel close enough to the rotation to get a look at OH against lower ranked opponents later this week if Thomas-Alaira and Franklin continue struggling as six-rotation passers?
