Long night ahead
Transitional years can be painful, but c’mon Badgers you cannot lose to a Deacon Hill led Iowa team with play calls from Brian Ferentz. And at home. Thats a trifecta of pain.

Can't get much slower
Same old, too many mistakes. Can't run the ball well enough. Losing the starting QB doesn't help. Slow starts are killing us.
— Mark (@DUD6887) October 14, 2023
A Mertz-ien effort
Apparently, our offense can be just as horrific in the Air Raid as it was with the Chryst pro-style.
— Craig Smith (@smithcp1) October 14, 2023
And then having to watch that at the same time a super accurate Graham Mertz was winning a SEC shootout was just salt in the wound.
Fell flat
Lot of big talk by a coaching staff this offseason of “being prepared and rising to the moment” and the team looks worse in basically all facets of the game. You have one of the best RB in the country and they don’t seem to want to involve him
— Jesse (@kberg86) October 14, 2023
And against Iowa ...
Between the Packers and Badgers, the state of Wisconsin managed to set offensive football back 100 years in the span of less than one week
— Joe O (@JoeFromStCloud) October 14, 2023
Accountability?
The coaches need to finally admit they don’t have the players to run their scheme on either side of the ball
— Fred Ehle (@FredEhle) October 14, 2023
May be a long season
When in the months leading up to the season all you hear is that Phil Longo is an offensive genius, it makes watching a game like this even harder to watch.
— Bill Pfeiffer (@billt209) October 14, 2023
Offensive mess to clean
Sucks…when Mordecai went out, the chances for victory diminished significantly. Locke may be good in the future, but he is young and inexperienced. Against Iowa - bad deal. Really thin at RB-Allen is banged up…and undisciplined at times. Longo has work ahead of him
— Todd (@pilprin) October 14, 2023
Leads back to 'crootin
Iowa’s special teams & defense was the difference as the Hawkeyes take control of the Big Ten West & Wisconsin may have lost their starting quarterback for an extended period of time. For Luke Fickell, he needs a couple of recruiting classes before we become relevant again.
— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) October 14, 2023
I'm in the backfield, too
Fickell handpicked his QB and backup. If this is what we should expect at the most important position, he isn’t going to make it at Wisconsin. Also, what is up with the center? Every snap is like a slow pitch softball. That gives the defense at least a second head start.
— Dan Paulson (@kuatolives11) October 14, 2023
Valid
Why not fair catch those kickoffs instead of returning/holding and starting inside the 15? Poorly coached.
— Jeff Hoeft 🦡 (@HeffreyH) October 14, 2023
Appears you're correct
At least we don’t have to worry about losing Longo to a head coaching job after the season
— Keith Schmidt (@madtownkeith) October 14, 2023
Playing ahead matters
Thought the game was lost on the Badgers first drive when BAllen was stuffed on the fourth down. We needed to come away with points.
— David Forman (@dcdesker) October 14, 2023
Plenty of holes to fill
Overall roster lacks juice. No real playmakers out there on either side of the ball. I thought the receiver room would be better, but it hasn’t really shown up. I think Fickell will upgrade things over the next few cycles, but they look disjointed in a lot of key areas.
— Jack Pine Express (@kwzanella) October 14, 2023
Easy to be speechless
Tough to comprehend. Offense - terrible in every single way. Play calling. Execution. Stupid penalties. Team looks like last year. Why did we hire a new coaching staff?
— Chris Davis (@cdavis20000) October 14, 2023
Undisciplined reflects coaching
Allen has no explosion. Line is undisciplined. The line gets no rhythm. The QB was lost. 3rd and 10 and we run a eight yard pattern. With no seperation. Penalties. Lots of them. We kept returning Kicks and getting flagged. That’s coaching. Just a few thoughts

Drake Maye's fine without him
Turns out, Phil longo is/was super overrated.

It was their only hope
I don’t know what I was watching!
— Mary Korn Erickson (@sixtiesfan) October 14, 2023
It was not good. Iowa was better prepared. They knew they could beat us with special team play and physicality. I’d say it worked.
Fair yet optimistic outlook
Defense did its job minus the 1 big run. Offense is still figuring it out. Locke played well early, Iowa adjusted and brought pressure. Renfro needs to get healthy. The snap affects every single play.
— Brett Schaal (@StillVertical84) October 14, 2023
Trenches win (and lose) games
I thought we had a roster full of good transfer QB’s???? But it all starts with the offensive line. Been horrible for a few years now….. that’s the key. Always has been.
— Scott Best🇺🇸 (@scottieb72) October 14, 2023
A numbing stat
Fire Tressel into the sun. IA last attempted a pass w/ 3:51 in the 3rd and he still couldn’t call plays to stop the run in the 4th.
— MountainBadger (@mtnbdgr) October 15, 2023
The hype wasn't real
Badgers are great at preseason hype videos
— BESmith63 (@BeSmith63) October 14, 2023
Money always wins
Doesn’t really matter. Next year when there are no divisions and we add a bunch more Top Ten teams to the B1G the future for mid-level programs like Wisconsin and Iowa is years of irrelevance. It’s all about TV dollars now.
— Russ Evansen (@waunaruss) October 15, 2023
It was not good
Hard to be mad at the defense. Terrible offense. Not sure whether they just don’t have the players to run their preferred offense or the offense is bad or both. But either way, oof. Rhythm of the play calling seems off.

Same
Feel bad for Mordecai
— BadgerBro614 (@BBro614) October 15, 2023
Ehhh, it's early
A friend asked if we’ve hired PJ Fleck 2.0. A pretty accurate analogy. Lots of talk and cliches. And???
— Steve Dunai (@stevedunai) October 15, 2023
Yep
We lost to a QB that was 6-14 for 37 yards. I think that says it all.

Terrible game. I missed Huskies/Ducks game for this.

Novel realization
Has the Badgers ' attempt to mix ground-and-pound with 'air raid' left them without an offensive identity that they can rely on?
