All plans now before a county committee to centralize, expand and improve the Dane County Jail in and around the Public Safety Building Downtown would eliminate two floors of outdated and dangerous maximum security cells in the City-County Building located across Carroll Street from the PSB and close down the Ferris Center for work-release inmates at 2120 Rimrock Road. Inmates from both of those places would be housed in the expanded and improved PSB jail facility instead, according to the two proposed renovation options, which would cost up to $166.8 million and take about 3.5 years to design and build, depending on the selected phasing options.
