Collection: The fight to save Fontana's harbor from excess sludge
It took a lot of effort to find a coalition for studying and coping with an excess sedimentation problem plaguing the Abbey Harbor in Fontana. Here is how a private-public partnership came together to deal with the water quality issue.

FONTANA – With the Abbey Marina filling quickly with sand and requiring costly annual dredging, the harbor is seeking long-term solutions with the village to address the rapid sedimentation.
Along with heavy rainfalls that have affected Fontana in recent years, a storm water system constructed near the Big Foot Country Club by the village about five years ago to reduce water from pooling around golf course fairways is also contributing to the recent spike in sedimentation pooling into the harbor.

FONTANA — A proposed analysis of sources contributing to sedimentation in the Abbey Marina will be considered Aug. 3 by the village board.
If the board approves, the village would coordinate a study to evaluate the local watershed, track stream and rainwater flows, and develop potential solutions for the sedimentation issues.

FONTANA – The Fontana Village Board has agreed to pay half of the cost for a a $19,000 study aimed at identifying the cause of increased sedimentation clogging up the Abbey Marina.
The study was approved during in Aug. 3 village board meeting, with one abstention from trustee Dave Prudden, on the assumption that the Abbey Marina will agree to pay the other half.

FONTANA — A study on the causes of messy sediment buildup in the Abbey Harbor will be a public-private venture.
The private operator of the marina has agreed to join the village of Fontana in a 50-50 cost-sharing agreement for the engineering study, expected to cost $19,000.
