PISCATAWAY, N.J. — The University of Wisconsin men's basketball team could be without one of its key rotational players for its matchup with Rutgers at Jersey Mike's Arena.

Yeah
Gutless

No question about it
In what has to be the worse loss this season, Michigan outplayed the Badgers from the opening tip. Wisconsin’s Chucky Hepburn had one of his better games scoring 17 pts. AJ Storr put up 20 pts. There seemed to be no Purdue hangover.

Put it back together like Humpty Dumpty?
The Nebraska loss appears to have broken this team for whatever reason. They're not doing much of anything right right now. Bizarre.
— Scott L (@CCSO228) February 8, 2024
Better now than, gulp, March!
Tonight's loss was bad, no doubt. However, I'm glad they're going through this rough patch now. Lotta time to tweak some things, maybe try some different stuff, and get rollin again. Wanna be playin their best 🏀 a month from now

Poor shot selection
I hate when teams go away from things that works. That stretch where they took 5 threes in 6 possessions when it was basically a layup drill beforehand was inexplicable. Lots of guys no-showed tonight.
— Tranquil Chaos (@TuckerChicken18) February 8, 2024
Hard to find the changes
Last few games the coaching staff has made minimal half time adjustments. There’s no way they can compete in the tourney if they don’t shorten the bench & make in game adjustments both offensively and defensively.

Winning and losing inside
The Badgers tend to struggle when they get little to nothing out of their inside bigs. Crowl struggles against quality big men. Wahl is hard to peg. Played great against Purdue, but a no-show at Nebraska, and I thought sub-par tonight. Rutgers will be tough.

It's starting to be more than a trend
Nothing is changing this team continues to fire up brick after brick from the perimeter. That has to be addressed but I think we all can see how this is going to end come March.

Tough break
Nebraska broke this team

I'm here for the ride
The spiral into mediocrity and irrelevance is well underway!

Keeps us busy
The narrative of this team continues to change. It was depth and a different guy every night being big when they were winning. Now it seems like key pieces such as Crowl totally disappear in too many games and there are no close out players. Also, three point shooting is abysmal.
— BP (@BPotter2112) February 8, 2024
Fair to say they beat themselves
Shot selection was questionable from deep, and even most of the good looks were bricks. That was a brutal watch. Badgers played themselves out of a win.
— Damon Heim (@DamonHeim) February 8, 2024
The glue they needed
Apparently McGee is the key. Didn’t have that one on my “why was this team winning” bingo card
— Sconnie1 (@LanceHudgens) February 8, 2024
Happening quicker than last season
This could go from a very good season to a very disappointing season very fast for our Badgers
— John Husmoe (@JohnHusmoe) February 8, 2024
Physically outmatched, too
Remember when our bigs improved year over year. Crowl is so weak when the double comes
— Sconnie1 (@LanceHudgens) February 8, 2024
Saturday could restore some hope
Disappointing but not giving up hope.

Any word of team rifts that might be contributing to the recent backslide?
Trailed most of the game and felt like it was never close
Well, this is the first game that I felt from the get go that we were going to lose. The Badgers had zero energy! Even the bench seemed downtrodden. Too many missed 3s. It’s like we regressed back to last year. Just very disappointing.

Put up the lost posters
Woof…what happened to the offense? What happened to the defense? Was the team from earlier in the season a fluke?
— Jeff Becker (@jbecker18) February 8, 2024
Especially with how Michigan fans felt about their staff
Careless with the basketball and questionable shot selection for important stretches of the second half. And as much as I hate to admit it, the coaching advantage I thought we had going into the game was nonexistent during the game.
— Jeff (@bluehighway15) February 8, 2024
Bingo
Need post depth and also need to continue to attack the rim. Defensively, gotta keep the ball out of the paint. Careless turnovers are lost possessions that are huge in tight games.
— B Lutes (@BALutes) February 8, 2024
It's a slippery slide
Embarrassing, pathetic, late season swoon continues, seen this before, horrendous, ridiculous, team plays soft and weak in big moments, here comes a 6 seed if they are lucky
— Johnabeck69 (@johnabeck69) February 8, 2024
Beats the alternative
I prefer winning. Also, I prefer when the Badgers play better than they have been lately.
— Kevin (@KevinisRed5) February 8, 2024
Porter Moser is at Oklahoma, btw
Maybe they should fire Gard, hire the SDSU or Loyola coach because they recently made a final four, and that coach can bring in a recently fired NBA coach, and everyone will be happy. Who knows?

Doh!
Badger Basketball. It’s what they do. pic.twitter.com/tp1YKENE9P
— Kurt Krause (@BadgerTiny) February 8, 2024
Nobody likes stale toast
They’ve become an average BigTen team with no jam in 1 week. Something wrong in room? Would like to see more Blackwell and Winter.
— Mark Schutta (@MarkSchutta) February 8, 2024
Rational response
Purdue game was expected. The Nebraska game sucked because of HOW they lost, not the fact that they lost. This? This is inexcusable
— Eli (@EasyE6273) February 8, 2024
It's in the conversation
Worst Big 10 loss of Gard’s career. You won’t find a worse one against a worse team.
— In Development 🎯 (@j__1252) February 8, 2024
Perhaps the hype sauce was too strong
Not surprised. Feel like this team has leveled off after a decent start. They have shown all season that they can beat anyone, lose to anyone. Their margin for error is slim, every game will be a challenge through the rest of the season.
— Paul Bergum (@paul_bergum) February 8, 2024
Light years ahead
Only upside is it maybe saddles Michigan with Howard for another year
— MountainBadger (@mtnbdgr) February 8, 2024
It's a tough world
Amazing how one bad loss (Nebraska) can completely expose a team mentally. 3 games of zero identity.
— BK (@bkleppe83) February 8, 2024
Everyone loves a good magician
Very entertaining. I’ve never seen a team make a seven footer disappear three games in a row. Better than a David Copperfield trick.
— Pat Heffling (@wurstbrewerfan) February 8, 2024
It's a long road trip
There are a bunch of players who need to take a long hard look in the mirror and figure out what kind of player they want to be. Poor shot selection combined with people taking too many plays off.
— Jesse (@kberg86) February 8, 2024
Maybe we should clean our glasses
I don’t even recognize this team.
— Justin Allen (@jag18203) February 8, 2024
Good summary
Terrible Defense, 6 early turnovers, and 5 missed contested 2 footers in the 1st half. Up 4, 13 minutes left. Jack up two 3 pointers, Crowl turnover, and 2 more 3 pointers. O points scored. 😡
— Kirk Eastenson (@Eastyfor3) February 8, 2024
High ceiling?
0-3 after getting ranked 6. Very disappointing.
— Chuck Grau (@bcrifles) February 8, 2024
And they've caught a cough
That is an embarrassing, brutal loss! Losing be comes contagious!
— Justin Krahenbuhl (@JKRAN) February 8, 2024
Maybe 2-14
From 1-14 the Big Ten is just not good.
— Randall Kohl (@crandallkohl) February 8, 2024
Wisconsin, slowly, did too
Blew the load a tad early this year and America bought in
— Justin (@JSchmitz18) February 8, 2024
Can't tell if serious
They lost to a better team, and stayed competitive throughout. NIT bid still within reach.
