Brewers fans take shots at ownership as Craig Counsell leaves for division rival

The Brewers' all-time winningest manager is heading to a team who had a manager. Fans didn't hold back on Brewers ownership, Counsell and more.

Stain on ownership

Mark's legacy as the worst owner in Wisconsin sports history is complete.

— Ben Pascoe (@Badger8th) November 6, 2023

Chants will be loud this spring

Can Mark sell the team already?

— Jensen Jennings (@Jensen_Jennings) November 6, 2023

A loud decision

Hometown guy goes to the rival who already had a manager??? This sounds like a loud statement to the situation he endured the last couple seasons. I cannot fathom him being on board with PH Winker and this may be providing more evidence.

— Rob F (@RobFinley27) November 6, 2023

Hero vs. villain

Get Mark out of here, no one wants to work under him. He does enough to get by, will never get a team to the World Series. CC went for $, can't blame him, but biggest betrayal of a hometown guy in my lifetime. Just crazy news

— ChazB (@chazb33) November 6, 2023

Wink wink

This is on ownership and the front office. Couns was fed up. That’s the reason for the Winker decision.

— Garry Mason (@gmace10) November 6, 2023

Et tu?

He is a Wisconsin boy. He knows how we feel about things like this. Brett to MN? Maybe even a worse feeling because Counsell is one of us. What a betrayal. I can hear the boos already.

— Paula McAllister (@mrsmcal) November 6, 2023

Hope you hadn't had lunch

sick to my stomach

— WSRanter (@WSRanter) November 6, 2023

Ownership made its bed

Done with brewers. If you can't keep counsell over a few million a year it is clear they don't care about winning. All this while asking taxpayers for more than half a billion dollars. I suspect attendance will be down significantly next year and the brewers deserve it

— Brewcrew0811 (@Brewcrew0811) November 6, 2023

All about the money

If we can’t spend money at the St. Louis Cardinal level we are destined to fail every year. With or without Counsell. All the blame is on ownership.

— CoachLaFleurious (@tylertichenor84) November 6, 2023

Lose-lose

Good for Craig.

Bad for Milwaukee. Terrible optics for the team. Makes it look like the Brewers are not a club you'd want to coach at if a hometown guy and our winningest coach doesn't want to be there.

— Sean Patrick Little (@WiscoWriterGuy) November 6, 2023

FIB rivalry knows no ends

He should be forced to get a license plate with FIB, relinquish all Wisconsin rights - Spotted Cow whenever, best cheese, ketchup on hot dogs, etc., and have to find his own parking around Wrigley.

Oh?

This is the best possible outcome for UW football from a media standpoint.

Depends if Cubs spend

Good manager…but not worth that kind of money. Move on…

— brad neumann (@neumz26) November 6, 2023

Could be

I think we now know the answer to the question: "Whose decision was it to pinch hit Winker in back-to-back playoff games?"

— Sam Malone (@Thee_SamMalone) November 6, 2023

This is a safe space

I can't use the words I want to use.

Does money ever lose?

Money talks. He chose money at the end of the day. He’ll be booed from day one.

We're about to find out

Overrated manager. Weak division that wilts in post season. no big whup.

— Harry Callahan (@riskcapitalmgmt) November 6, 2023

Valid analysis

Classic case of a business having a person who’s over performing at their job and refuses to invest due to current success. Unfortunately, once that person finally has enough they leave and the business soon finds out what they actually lost.

— Brad Keenan (@bkeenan8) November 6, 2023

History lesson

Hey Continental soldiers thoughts on Arnold helping the British

— Tom Hearden (@followtheh) November 6, 2023

Two sides of the heart

He's the greatest manager in team history, seems like a really nice guy and I never begrudge anyone who gets a massive payraise.

But I hope he fails miserably and is fired three years from now for being unable to get the Cubs into the playoffs.

— Craig Smith (@smithcp1) November 6, 2023

"Fart in the wind"

went from assurance of a permanent legacy with Brewers to being just a nice story for the past 7 years that will be a fart in the wind, to quote Ron Wolf

— Robb M (@robbm02) November 6, 2023

Illinois math

8mil a year is 3mil after Illinois taxes

— fishinmadman (@fishinmadman) November 6, 2023

Page turned

He was a good regular season manager but in the postseason never could make the correct moves. It was apparent he wanted to move on and the Brewers need to do the same

— Mark Meddings (@MeddingsMark1) November 6, 2023

Thnks fr th mmrs

Sad day. pic.twitter.com/l5u2ATLnNx

— Gary Brilowski (@gbrilo) November 6, 2023

Who's next?

I understand that it's a shock and of course going to the Cubs is a gut punch but let's not pretend CC is irreplaceable....
