Former University of Wisconsin men’s basketball star Johnny Davis has fallen a few spots in almost every NBA mock draft with just three days until the actual event. He lands anywhere from No. 10 to being the last lottery pick.

Most outlets have Davis headed to the Wizards. The spot is widely discussed as a potential trade option which leaves things even more up in the air for the former Badgers guard.

CBS: No. 12 Oklahoma City Thunder

Johnny Davis - Feb. 5, 2022
STEVE APPS, FOR THE STATE JOURNAL

CBS’ David Cobb has Davis just outside of the top 10 but still a lottery pick heading to Oklahoma City. Cobb discussed Davis’ low 3-point shooting mark (30.6%) as a potential drawback to any team who picks up the 20-year-old. He credited Davis’ ability to run UW’s offensive and average 19.7 points per game as being a highlight for any team. Cobb said Davis will need to continue to work on his 3-pointer and less on his mid-range shots if he wants to fit in the modern NBA. However, he did note Davis’ versatility on both offense and defense as one of the reasons he could shine.

Sports Illustrated: No. 10 Washington Wizards

Jeremy Woo of Sports Illustrated previously had Davis as the No. 6 pick heading to the Pacers, but has knocked him down to No. 10. Davis would help Washington’s need for a guard, despite the club’s tendency to load up on forwards in the past drafts. Woo mentioned Davis' ability to be consistent on all areas of the floor despite battling injuries throughout the season as a highlight to drafting him.

This pick has been highly touted as a potential trade as the Wizards have shown interest in upgrading their backcourt. They’re a team that has expressed interest in trading up for former Purdue guard Jaden Ivey, but Woo said they “realistically may not have enough to offer to get that high.”

Yahoo Sports: No. 10 Washington Wizards

Krysten Peek of Yahoo! sports called Davis one of the “safest picks in the lottery,” citing his jump from freshman to sophomore year as proof of his hardworking nature. She said he might not be a superstar for the Wizards but complements Bradley Beal nicely. Peek said Davis’ consistency and ability to make the right reads could allow him to be an instant contributor for Washington.

The Athletic: No. 14 Cleveland Cavaliers

Zach Harper has Davis just barely making it as a lottery pick. It’s one of the lower picks for Davis, but the Cavaliers need guard depth as well as a wing who can be proficient on both sides of the floor. Davis offers that. Cleveland showed a lack of guard depth after Collin Sexton and Ricky Rubio got injured. There was no one to help out Darius Garland. Harper said if the Cavaliers bring back Sexton and use Davis as the third guard, they'll have a great rotation in the backcourt.

ESPN: No. 10 Washington Wizards

STEVE APPS, FOR THE STATE JOURNAL

ESPN hasn’t posted an updated mock draft, but Jonathan Givony had Davis headed to the Wizards as of last Wednesday.
