Wisconsin men's basketball fans call out officiating after loss to No. 3 Purdue

Fans didn't love the calls they saw Sunday as the University of Wisconsin men's basketball team fell at No. 3 Purdue in its regular-season finale.

Hanging tough

Badgers couldn’t hit their 3’s, otherwise played a gritty game. Against the #3 team in the country, Wisconsin hung with the Boilermakers for most of the game. John Blackwell had an impressive showing w/18pts while Steven Crowl continues to regress at the wrong time.

— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) March 10, 2024

Time to take a stand?

1) Would have loved to see Gard get run for that terrible miss on Hepburn and then not even stopping the play when he was down.

2) When Crowl fouled out, I would love to ask that ref what the heck he was supposed to do as Edey was bumping him back. Trash officiating.

— Dan (@drkoz23) March 10, 2024

Nothing to be ashamed of

Not surprised by the loss but they played better than I expected. Unfortunate reffing in many instances, especially the no call on Edey when Chucky was down and bleeding from contact. Keep your heads high heading to the B1G tourney, gents. #OnWisconsin

Starting to take shape

Tired of seeing our shooting fail us. Blackwell is going to be the next dude here. Love the decisions he makes on offense with his attacks to the rim. Will be a starter next 3 years. At least he should be

— Sconnie1 (@LanceHudgens) March 10, 2024

Can't spoil the going-away party

Well a lot of fight in the Badgers once again. Just not enough for a win. Mackey is a tough place to play but so many bizarre things going on during the game not sure how you tell players how to respond when refs have their own tribute to Edey.

— mike kerry (@BadgerMike) March 10, 2024

Nearing the end of the road

Abysmal officiating will obscure the fact that Badgers can’t make threes to save their lives. I fully expect both Wisconsin and Purdue to make early exits in NCAA once again. Only suspense left is who stays and who hits the portal.

— Russ Evansen (@waunaruss) March 10, 2024

Just a shot away

Purdue is really good and the Badgers battled. Need to make a few more threes and they can beat anyone.

— David Roelke (@droelke) March 10, 2024

Nothing new here

Tough day for refs but pretty common at Purdue. Ask Chris Collins. Blackwell > Klesmit. Need to make more timely shots next two weeks.

— Jake Lund (@Jake_Lund) March 10, 2024

Focused on the silver lining

I mean, take away the expected (Crowl contributes nothing, refs absolutely hose WI again in a game against Purdue while Gard does nothing) .... and the game was honestly pretty good. Left me a bit optimistic to be honest, but maybe I'm desperate.

— Nick P Bassill (@NickPBassill) March 10, 2024

Moving in the right direction

They cut it to 5 and had good momentum and then a couple calls didn’t go our way. That was that. Purdue is really good. I feel like we’ve played two pretty good games now. Let’s see if we can make some noise next week.

— Bob (@ajnate) March 10, 2024

Bogged down in the middle

Our lack of athleticism at center may be a big problem for a long time.

— Matt Pokela (@mpoke13) March 10, 2024

Didn't make things any easier

Hard to win shooting that poor from 3. Overall good effort and thought they played well other than behind the arc. And it’s hard to win at Purdue.

— Badger Steve 🧀🍺🦌 (@UW_Steve) March 10, 2024

Falling just a bit short

Gotta make 3s. Outside of that, they played a really solid game.

— Wiscy (@WiscyWear) March 10, 2024

Time to take a deep breath

They played well. Should ready for the tourney. No worries.

— Más Tequila (@JoRy_MaMa) March 10, 2024

Let's see where that gets them

Refs blew, Edey gets away with anything and everything, glad Badgers kept it respectable, Purdue will lose 1st weekend of tournament when they don't have Big Ten refs.

— Brad Adams (@adams_brad22) March 10, 2024

Showing up for a tough fight

Was impressed with the how they battled and looked good in the second half.

— Drew Pakenham (@DrewEsports) March 10, 2024

A lot to like at first look

Terrible officiating and fluky 3 point shooting are going to cloud the fact that’s the best they’ve played in several weeks

— Tyler Morgan (@tyler_morgan28) March 10, 2024

Ready for reinforcements

Crowl has seemed like a bench player for about half the season. Need to consider personnel changes.

— Michael Burger (@Burgscom) March 10, 2024

Cry us a river

If there was a tournament for whiniest fans Purdue is on my odds on favorite.

— Randall Kohl (@crandallkohl) March 10, 2024

Glued to the bench

Shocked Essigian didn't get an opportunity as we once again shot poorly from three...if we can't recruit some shooters this group will struggle to compete in the Big Ten next season...

— Paul (@BadgerPaul87) March 10, 2024

Keep letting it fly

If we hit our 3’s we win. I’m not feeling that bad about this one.

— Randall Kohl (@crandallkohl) March 10, 2024

Stuck in neutral

Is it just me or do the last several “bigs” for UW, Happ, Reuvers, Potter, and now Crowl, not seem to really improve much over their careers? And I could actually argue, regress?

— Jeff Bruggink (@bru4pk) March 10, 2024

Eyeing the competition outside the Big Ten

5-24 from 3 is just horrific, but sadly seems to be a trend with this team.. Didn’t expect a W, but hard to win shooting that badly. Blackwell with another good game .. Crowl a non factor hurts.. interested to see how they will play once they are out of conference..

— Paul Bergum (@paul_bergum) March 10, 2024

All you can do is hope

The effort was all there in a ridiculously challenging environment. Hopefully the 3 point shots fall more in the next couple of weeks.

— ksagendo (@ksagendo) March 10, 2024

All bark, no bite

I hope Purdue loses in the first round again. So many calls went their way. Especially for Edey. They talk about him like he’s a God! He’s just an ok player that happens to be 7’4”. Crowl played ok defense but offense-not good. We need him to score.
