CHAMPAIGN, Ill. — Illinois signed coach Bret Bielema to a new six-year contract through 2028 on Tuesday, a big reward for transforming a struggling program into a winner in his second season.

Concerning signs
I am ok losing from time to time…but the sloppy, error prone play we are seeing, coupled with lack of energy, has me frustrated and concerned about this program

Scapegoat
Mertz will take the blame, per usual, for a program wide failure behind a $6mm/year coach. The OL is a flat out disaster. Full stop. Allen is a ghost. The WRs get no separation and can’t catch. The scheme is stubborn and antiquated. And the defense has cratered. But blame Mertz.

Hard work beats talent ...
The better team won today. Can't be disappointed about that. I am disappointed that the team with the better talent lost today. That is on the coaching staff and time has caught up with PC.

An embarrassment
This was embarrassing. We were undisciplined, erratic and outmatched at every turn. If this is the result that comes from the two highest ranked recruiting classes in school history, then something has gone very wrong.

Complete loss
Two yards rushing the entire game? Multiple penalties. This was a complete team loss in every phase of the game. Chryst will NOT be fired so don’t waste your time. But Athletic Director Chris McIntosh can’t allow this to keep happening.

Losses stacking
Worst loss in 15 years. An inexcusable effort from a coaching staff that has 0 excuse and margin for error. The lack of performance since 2020 has been alarming and Chryst needs to be relieved of his duties. Too many bad losses.

Noticeable trend
Once (Washington State) is a fluke; twice (Ohio State) is a coincidence; three times (Illinois) is a trend.

I shudder to think what a fourth time would mean.
Pile of mediocrity
Wisconsin Football has slipped into mediocrity. I didn’t see them do anything well at all. Let’s hope they can get back into playing well this year.

Follow the model?
2 yards rushing on the day. The OL is a sieve, Mertz continues to prove that he cannot go out and win you a football game, Defense has clearly taken a step back, overall the team looks listless, uninspired, and completely flat.

Kinda like their listless, uninspiring & flat HC.
Season over
Not worth my time rest of season. Bring in a new staff that can coach and recruit.

Lesson learned
This game was going to be the “tell” about this team. How would they respond? We now know the answer, this is one Chrysts worst teams. Total team meltdown

Seats emptying?
Brutal. Worst loss of the Chryst Era. McIntosh won't do it, but it's time to promote Leonard and see what he can do & how the players react. At least then you know if he's the answer. Letting PC play it out will lead to nothing but more empty seats.

When you know it's bad
I'm actually in shock. I'm one of the biggest Homer's out there and I cannot believe how bad they are.

A certain age
Worst team in 21 years. Offense in completely inept. Defense just isn't as talented as recent years... we'll be lucky to get bowl eligible this year...

That bad, huh?
Most embarrassing loss for this program in my lifetime, and I was in the building for the 59-0 loss to Ohio State.

Worst to come?
The path the program is on has no bottom. This team is undisciplined and has no confidence. Chryst appears to have lost this team.

We like a good time
Jump around is all that really matters. The Big Ten West is awful so there is hope.

Different opponent, same result
Last week I said UW is just as likely to go 2-6 as they are 6-2 down the stretch. Afraid I might have been too optimistic. That was pathetic. No effort. Can’t block. Can’t catch. Injuries galore. Against Bert… not tOSU.

Bret's plan
Illinois took the Wisconsin blueprint and was much more physical on both sides of the ball. Looking at the remaining schedule who does Wisconsin have a chance of competing with much less beating?

Fresh take needed
This is what happens when you have "Wisconsin People" coaching for thirty years. You end up with inbreeding after thirty years. Need new blood and ideas. Matt Rhule, Deion Sanders or Urban Meyer if you actually want to win.
— Kevin (@KevinSpiceMcCo) October 1, 2022
New foundation needed
My thought is that Wisconsin is getting outmatched in recruiting, player development, scheme & play calling. While I doubt major changes will be made during the season, this program’s leadership has done all it can. Time to rebuild.

Soup bowl, anyone?
I don’t see this team going 4-3 the rest of the season to become bowl eligible
— Badgerbuss (@badgerbuss) October 1, 2022
No excuses
Can’t blame 2020 on COVID anymore. So now it’s been 3 years of this. Apathy is starting to set in.

They're down bad
Hate to say it, but @Wisconsin football sucks this year!
