For his seventh State of the State address Wednesday, Democratic Gov. Tony Evers found a slightly more sympathetic audience, after Democrats made gains under new maps in the November election. Republicans still control the Legislature, however, and will decide which of his initiatives survive or get the ax.

In his seventh State of the State address, the governor announced plans to spend $300 million on mental health services like peer-to-peer suicide prevention programs and expanded mental health training.
Republicans still hold majorities in both chambers, but Evers and his fellow Democrats are hopeful new, more competitive boundaries could open the door to more bipartisanship in the coming session.
If signed into law, Wisconsin would join more than 20 states in requiring explicit informed consent before medical students practice pelvic exams on patients under anesthesia.
A Racine County commissioner set a $1 million cash bond Thursday in the case of Davonte Carraway, the inmate charged in the fatal attack of 35-year-old Joseph Lee at the Racine County Jail on Dec. 31.
The case is related to two bills focused on improving K-12 students' reading performance in the state.
