Shelby Ellison, assistant professor in the Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences at UW-Madison, talks about research being done on hemp plants grown in a greenhouse on campus.
As uncertainty around federal funding for researchers at the Universities of Wisconsin is expected to continue into the new year, their new discoveries will, too.
UW-Madison scientist Ken Poss, amid tanks of zebrafish used for research in his lab on the campus. Poss has tens of thousands of zebrafish, which grow up to 2 inches long.
Shelby Ellison, assistant professor in the Department of Plant and Agroecosystem Sciences at UW-Madison, shows hemp being grown for research in the Walnut Street Greenhouse on campus. Hemp production for nonintoxicating fibers or grains, which is a lot of what Ellison’s lab works with, is exempt in the new law.
UW-Madison professor Jimena Laporta Sanchis’ office has a theme: cows. Pictures of them hang on the her office wall and numerous figurines graze on her desk. Laporta Sanchis’ work revolves around keeping dairy cattle healthy and preventing heat stress from having a negative impact on their reproductive systems and milk production.
