UW Regents approve deal on funding, engineering building with controversial re-vote

Universities of Wisconsin President Jay Rothman released details about the system's workforce development plan in an effort to recoup $32 million the state legislature cut from its budget this year and set aside for a workforce development plan.
Just days after rejecting it, the UW Board of Regents on Wednesday approved a sweeping deal with Republican legislators to free up more than $800 million in staff raises, a new engineering building at UW-Madison and other infrastructure spending in exchange for scaling back diversity efforts.
I thank the Board of Regents for approving this agreement that will deliver more than $800 million in projects, initiatives, and withheld pay to our employees. Given the circumstances, this is good for our students, our universities, and the state of Wisconsin. 1/
