The East Troy Electric Railroad Museum, 2002 Church St., will host Railfan Day on Saturday, Aug. 22 to honor the 10-year anniversary of the railroad’s maintenance facility. Attendees will be able to view cars and equipment that are normally not on display. Each train leaving the depot will feature a different historic interurban car or trolley. Attendees may purchase a ticket to ride on a variety of cars throughout the day, starting at 10 a.m. Passengers arriving at the Elegant Farmer onboard one of the regularly-scheduled trains will have the opportunity to take part in a “behind the scenes” tour of the maintenance facility. After boarding a trolley that will transport passengers from the Elegant Farmer to the maintenance facility, guests will receive a guided tour showcasing the museum’s latest projects, including the restoration of North Shore Line Car 162. Participants will be required to wear closed-toe shoes to visit the maintenance facility, as well as be able to climb on and off the trolley. Attendees also may ride on an East Troy Railroad Museum speeder, which are small gasoline powered railcars used by track repair crew members. Riders may purchase a limited number of tickets for a 15-minute speeder ride, which will travel from the Elegant Farmer to Lower Phantom Lake. Tickets for a speeder ride are $5 cash and may be purchased at the Elegant Farmer Station.
