The city wants to build a new public safety facility because the fire department is running out of space at its current station at 730 Marshall St., and the police station’s location at City Hall does not allow for future expansion.
Democrats repeatedly called the deal “irresponsible” and a short-term fix that doesn’t address the issues with the state’s funding formula for public schools.
Members of the Lake Geneva City Council’s Personnel Committee approved on May 4 to dismiss complaints filed against Alderwoman Sherri Ames. The committee members approved 4-1 to dismiss the complaints with Alderman Joel Hoiland, who filed the complaints, voting “no.” Some of the complaints are related to an incident that allegedly occurred after a candidates forum on March 18. Hoiland alleges that after the forum Ames approached him in an aggressive manner and called him a “liar.” Hoiland said while he was trying to disengage from the situation, Ames tried to block his path causing him to slightly bump her. He said Ames loudly shouted “he hit me,” and later filed a false police report against him. Ames said she did approach Hoiland and he said “Get out of my way,” and he pushed her and then she pushed him back and then she went to the police station to report the incident. However, Ames said she and Hoiland have since agreed to drop any charges against each other. Hoiland also filed complaints against Ames for comments she made during the Jan. 26 City Council meeting and during the April 15, 2025 City Council Finance, Licensing and Regulation Committee.
