Members of the Lake Geneva City Council approved on April 27 to send a letter of intent to transportation company, Jones Travel & Tour in Elkhorn, that city officials are interested in possibly purchasing two trolleys for about $100,000 to provide transportation to and from the downtown area during the Wisconsin Department of Transportation’s upcoming Highway 50/Main Street road reconstruction project, which is set to be conducted in 2027 and 2028. The aldermen also approved to establish two different types of request for proposals for a potential trolley/transportation program. One request for proposal includes city officials purchasing the trolleys and then an outside company operating the trolley program. Another request for proposal includes an outside company purchasing the vehicles and then operating a transportation program for the city during the road reconstruction project.
Members of the Lake Geneva City Council’s Personnel Committee approved on May 4 to issue a censure against Alderman Joel Hoiland related to a complaint filed against City Administrator Dave De Angelis. The censure was approved by a 3-2 vote with Hoiland and Mary Jo Fesenmaier voting no. De Angelis’s complaint is related to an incident which occurred on Feb. 24 in which Hoiland filmed a campaign video at the city’s public works facility and requested that a city employee be a part of the filming. Hoiland ran against Mayor Todd Krause and ran for re-election for his District 3 seat on the City Council during the April 7 spring election. De Angelis alleges that Hoiland violated city policy by using city property for political activity, not receiving permission from a city administrator or department head to use city property, engaged a city employee during working hours and asking a city employee to participate in a political activity while on duty. Hoiland said he reviewed the city’s policies and ordinances and feel he was not in violation.
