The Wisconsin DNR on Sept. 5 announced the acquisition of 1,830 acres adjacent to Princes Point Wildlife Area in Jefferson County, nearly doubling the size of the approximately 2,000 acre state property. Prince’s Point Wildlife Area consists primarily of bottomland hardwoods and open water marsh. Located off County Hwy. D, three miles northeast of Whitewater, the wildlife area is primarily riparian wetlands associated with the confluence of Spring Creek, the Scuppernong River and the Bark River. A large portion of the area is comprised of bottomland hardwoods and shrub-carr. There is a small portion of upland cover along Koch Road on the northern edge of the property.
