Free agent quarterback Aaron Rodgers is signing a one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Steelers, the team has announced. Rodgers, who will join the Steelers pending a physical, is set to travel to Pittsburgh and participate in the team’s minicamp, according to ESPN. The 41-year-old visited the Steelers on March 21, with the team confident throughout free agency that he would eventually sign with the team. Pittsburgh allowed quarterbacks Russell Wilson and Justin Fields to leave as free agents while also turning down the opportunity to use a high draft pick on a quarterback in April. Rodgers, who considered retiring this summer, was released by the Jets earlier this year after spending two seasons in New York. The four-time MVP signed with the Jets after 18 seasons with the Green Bay Packers and was tasked with ending the Jets’ five-decade-long Super Bowl drought. However, Rodgers would tear his Achilles four snaps into his debut with the team, ending his 2023 season prematurely. Rodgers returned to action in 2024 but failed to lead New York to the playoffs after finishing the regular season with a record of 5-12. The 2011 Super Bowl MVP threw for 3,897 yards and 28 touchdowns in 2024, both third on the Jets' single-season list; however, he also notched 11 interceptions during that time.
