The Milwaukee Brewers, at long last, are headed back to the World Series.
A 6-4 victory against the Los Angeles Dodgers in Game 4 of the National League Championship Series on Thursday night at Dodger Stadium punctuated a four-game sweep for the Brewers, who are returning to the Fall Classic for the first time since 1982.
Milwaukee, which won a franchise-record 103 games during the regular season, has looked the part of a World Series favorite throughout the postseason. It downed the red-hot San Diego Padres in four games in the National League Division Series before dispatching the two-time defending World Series champion Dodgers in a rematch of last year’s NLCS, which Los Angeles won in four games.
The Brewers’ last trip to the World Series came when they won the American League pennant 44 years ago. Milwaukee faced the St. Louis Cardinals and took a 3-2 series lead before the Cardinals battled back to win in seven games.
