The Badgers were shut out in Big Ten play for the first time in more than two years, with Arsenii Sergeev having to stop only three shots in the third.
The Badgers had to adjust after losing one of their top scorers against Penn State. Things never came together in a shutout loss.
The Badgers lost their fourth straight game, with Penn State completing a sweep behind 39 saves from Arsenii Sergeev and two goals by Reese Laubach.
The Badgers have been among the least-penalized teams in the country but there were times in a loss Saturday when they "lost our minds," coach Mike Hastings said.
The Badgers broke a 5-on-5 scoring drought but one goal was all they could muster in losing at No. 8 Ohio State to extend a late-season skid.
The Badgers scored eight goals during a six-game losing streak but responded with seven against the Irish.
The Badgers will take part in the only NCAA men's hockey tournament not held in the U.S.
