Fans are growing angrier with the offense as a signature victory against No. 3 Penn State slipped from its hands.

Time for the future?

It’s time. pic.twitter.com/EgQSB6SjNo

— Wisconsin Homer (@wisconsintakes) October 27, 2024

A rare instance in having two good QBs doesn't equal no QBs

It is sad when penn states back up QB is better than the Badger starter

— JMyron (@sleepyjmyron) October 27, 2024

Two awful second halves

Even with it being handed to them on a silver platter, Fickell & Co. still couldn't secure a defining victory. They got dominated in the second half, just like the USC game. It hurts to say, but they've become an average Big Ten team at best.

— Bill Pfeiffer (@billt209) October 27, 2024

Not sure which of the three were worse, QB, OL or DL

Badgers got dominated in the trenches on both sides of the ball. Badgers lost the game when Locke threw the pick 6 but he wasn’t good for most of the game.

— Andrew Zimdars (@andrew_zimdars) October 27, 2024

A putrid offense

Atticus Bertrams was the Badger player of the game, while Braedyn Locke showed from the start he’s not the future at the quarterback position. Luke Fickell has to make changes in his coaching staff with Phil Longo being the first to be shown the door.

— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) October 27, 2024

Totally

Worst part is they held in there. Had a chance. Need better QB play and it could have been a win.

— Jonathan Barnett (@NotSoHumbleHost) October 27, 2024

It's a shame the crowd wasn't rewarded

Competitive enough just to lose. Had a chance tonight, Penn St had injuries, our defense was bending but not breaking and the crowd was electric. But just like USC, one turnover changed the entire game and we couldn’t overcome it.

— Danny Zweifel (@wsd1988) October 27, 2024

Penn State's OC sure schemed it up

Give Penn State credit for making adjustments when they lost their starting Quarterback. They completely changed their offensive playcalling.

That’s precisely what Luke Fickell needs from his assistants, but isn’t getting.

— Wisconsinsane (@wisconsinsane) October 27, 2024

Creativity was there the last three games

I'm willing to give the HC more time to get his guys, but it's very clear to me Longo has to go. When you're outmatched - as UW is against better teams - you have to be more creative (backfield movement, etc). Whatever the opposite of creative is is what Longo does.

— Nick P Bassill (@NickPBassill) October 27, 2024

Penn State's defense shrunk the field

Qb being bad really hurts every aspect of the game. Literally gave them 7. Defenses aren’t concerned with him beating them. Lot of 3 and outs .Thought are defensive did enough to win. Still need more of a pass rush but oh well. Still think you have to give freshman some PT .

— Ben Patton (@BenjaminP32) October 27, 2024

I'll take the former, for now

Penn state did a good job scheming for and setting up their back up qb for success. Is Wisconsin’s issue on offense more talent or more scheming for your strengths?

— Wiscy Business (@KeeperOfTheIce) October 27, 2024

No lies detected

Team was ready to play. Excellent effort. Difference in QB talent is staggering. Longo play calling in 2nd half was awful.

— Rob F (@RobFinley27) October 27, 2024

Totally fair

They played hard…just really disappointed in the offensive effort tonight. Could run but refused to go with what worked. Sloppy execution by the players as well. Defense ran out of gas and struggle with the backup

— Todd (@pilprin) October 27, 2024

The math is math'n

Braedyn Locke now has 7 TD's and 5 INT's. You cannot win very many football games if you turn the ball over that many times.

— Wisconsinsane (@wisconsinsane) October 27, 2024

An astute observation

An RPO offense doesn’t work unless there is an actusl threat of the QB actually running. PSU DE’s crashed everything inside and eliminated the run game entirely. Once they put it in Lockes hands, it was game over.

— Jack Pine Express (@kwzanella) October 27, 2024

A lot of what-ifs

QB play matters a lot! Like a lot lot! That’s nothing against Locke, he seems like a really likeable hard working kid, but I can only watch this season and think what might have been had TVD not gone down with a season ending injury on the first drive against Alabama.

— Wiscy (@WiscyWear) October 27, 2024

It was only never after a bad turnover

Typical big loss at home at night - play well enough to be in game but never win

— A. Jones (@Aaron_J_Jones) October 27, 2024

Defense looked improved but ran out of gas

Had no. 3 team in the country on the ropes with backup QB running the show for remainder of season. James Franklin is 3-17 all time vs top 10 teams at PSU and still has a job.. no reason to question Fickell at this point. To be in this game for 4 quarters is telling. iMO.

— Jake Raffel (@JRaffel1) October 27, 2024

It was there for the taking

Well after 3 weeks of lower level opposition and positive thought. we are back to were it starts over again. Had PSU not lost a couple of key players maybe the Badgers beat them. But maybe overconfidence had them think the game was over at halftime

— mike kerry (@BadgerMike) October 27, 2024

Can't play not to lose

You don’t play passive when you’re up 10-7 with a quarter and a half to play

— Colby Lamb (@colblamb) October 27, 2024

A slippery slope

another 2nd Half collapse, inability to RUN the football and early WR Drops put Locke in a tough position and he made mistakes - Defense ran out of gas and fizzled ... Penn State D stepped up big in 3rd Qtr

— KillaKev (@KillaKevDaMil) October 27, 2024

I'm afraid you're not alone

Tired of being the program that just can’t beat the elite teams.

— AM (@ADM6ix) October 27, 2024

One could say they dropped the game

A few weird holding calls in 1st half and some really bad receiving drops all game long. That's the difference.

— MeLon Dusk (@MSparky64) October 27, 2024

It's fair to be encouraged. Macro scope agrees from Year 1 to Year 2

I was actually encouraged. Had #3 team in the country on the ropes through 3 quarters.

That said, Locke has to stop throwing it to the other team. That INT was a complete game-changer.

— Chris Weiss (@PsChrisWeiss) October 27, 2024

Nyzier Fourqurean made great tackles

Coaching is there: they are better today than they were at the beginning of the season. Get the talent level up in key positions and then let’s see where we’re at.

#3 on D is a baller! Made some huge plays tonight, fearless! #3 on O ain’t bad either

— Michael Hoitomt (@MichaelHoitomt) October 27, 2024

Need more 'cruitin'

Badgers run out of gas against good teams. Close games then...

Out scored 21 to 3 versus PSU in the second half

Out scored 28 to 0 versus USC in the second half

Out scored by Alabama 21 to 7 in the second half

— Ken Simmons (@KenSimm51368472) October 27, 2024

Pound the gas pedal

Well…almost best team ever. Longo needs to get out of his own way…let it fly…don’t need to be so conservative. Playing like you are up 2 TD’s…..make shit happen. Toss the ball around…WR’s always forget how to catch the ball when they get to Wisconsin…need to find dawgs.

— aarondentz (@aarondentz) October 27, 2024

Improved but record will be similar

this team is pretty much what we thought they were... good enough to beat the bottom tier of B1G teams, but not much more... and they have shown some improvement this year, but the gap between the Badgers and really good teams has grown over the last 5 or so years

— Slim Hickman (@SlimHickman) October 27, 2024

Let Mabrey cook

Feels like we didn’t prepare for a running qb at all. Seems like we’re moving in the right direction. Locke isn’t the future and we will be exploring the transfer portal once again.

— Doc (@Doc_Brewer18) October 27, 2024

The varsity game?

They need to watch the women’s volleyball team more. Did you see them squash Purdue today??!

Observations from rewatching Wisconsin's loss reveal an issue on the offensive line, a trend that needs squishing and more.

Will Wisconsin's defensive wrinkle slow down Iowa's rushing attack enough?

The rushing attack comes into focus on both sides. Iowa has one of the country's best backs, and Wisconsin hopes to free up Tawee Walker.

Wisconsin said it has respect for an identity established at Iowa under Kirk Ferentz. But can the Badgers match it under Luke Fickell?

It’s almost time for hunters across Wisconsin to head out for the 2024 nine-day gun deer season, opening Saturday, Nov. 23 and running through Sunday, Dec. 1. This is the latest nine-day window within which the season may occur, as established by state law.

The Badgers have lost to Iowa the past two season in large part due to Iowa's superior specialists. That might not be the case in this week's primetime matchup.

The Badgers had a fan base believing, until an underperforming offense further complicated things. Here's what stood out.

An upset was brewing until Braedyn Locke threw an interception that was returned for a touchdown in the third quarter. "I've got to do some things better," he said.
