Wisconsin football fans find hope after miscue-filled loss to Ohio State

  • AFerguson
  • Oct 28, 2023
  • Oct 28, 2023 Updated May 3, 2024

The Badgers covered the 14.5-point spread against No. 3 Ohio State, but fans point to positives to build on.

They're pretty good

Henderson and Harrison.

— Driftless Patriot 🇺🇸 (@DriftlesPatriot) October 29, 2023

Glimpse of future

Badgers showed grit. They were severely undermanned and there is a significant disparity in talent level, yet they hung w/one of the best teams in college football. This was the game where you saw glimpses of what Tressel's defense was capable of creating chaos.

— wisconsinsane (@wisconsinsane) October 29, 2023

Moral victory

My expectations were we would get our doors blown off so I'm calling it a win.

— Evan (@Badgers220) October 29, 2023

Still a 4Q loss

Lots of singing of praises for a team that lost by the spread. Offense and punting were terrible. Team did show a lot of heart. D was strong. But once again lost a game to a ranked team in the 4th quarter. Anything sounding familiar?

— Chris Davis (@cdavis20000) October 29, 2023

Slippery, cold footballs?

Team showed fight for the second week in a row. Should hold their heads high.

Need to hit the jugs machine this week.

— Wisconsin Homer (@wisconsintakes) October 29, 2023

Tough to prepare for injury

Starting to see Tressel settle in as a DC…offensively, the WR’s need to catch the ball. Too many opportunities missed…loss of Allen really limits RB options.

— Todd (@pilprin) October 29, 2023

Fair assessment

Both Henderson’s running and Harrison’s receiving was too much for a Badger team who never overcame early fumbles and dropped passes. Thought both the offensive and defensive lines held up against the 3rd ranked Buckeyes.

— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) October 29, 2023

Massive step forward

The three turnovers were key to making the score more respectable than what we watched in real time. But that was the best the D performed when looking at whom they played.

— Más Tequila (@JoRy_MaMa) October 29, 2023

Locke'd in on future

I’m excited to see what this new coaching staff can accomplish moving forward. It would have been nice to have Chez and Allen in the backfield, but Braedyn Locke looks like a guy that could develop into a very good QB.

— Jordan Love Bookmarks (@BookmarkerLove) October 29, 2023

Always comes back to 'crootin

We don’t have the depth to hang-yet. Couple more top 25 recruiting classes like the next one and we win this game in the future

— Fred Ehle (@FredEhle) October 29, 2023

It's a money war

Feels like WIsconsin is a small market team in a league filled with big market teams. Don’t see a path with current landscape in college football where they could go .500 vs Ohio Stage on a decade.

— Mark Marriott (@MarkAMarriott) October 29, 2023

1-0 in the moral W column

Moral victory? Freshman QB in his second start and - in the 2nd half - 3rd/4th string RBs and still kept it close until late. Giving back that TD in the 3rd killed the momentum of getting back to the tie. Ultimately, tho, the better team won. Too many mistakes in Q1.

— Bob 🇺🇦 (@BobRidesABike) October 29, 2023

No. 3 for a reason

Thought they played hard all the way through the game. Ohio State is just the better team.

— Jim (@Bigtenman77) October 29, 2023

The quiet part out loud

The defense was impressive . Was pleasantly surprised how they hung in there for most of the game.. My biggest concern going in was coming out of this game healthy for the remainder of the season. Losing Allen and Dike long term will be a problem..

— Paul Bergum (@paul_bergum) October 29, 2023

Stitch the heart for stretch run

A lot of positives but a lot to work on.

The defense played very well and Locke looks good for his second start.

We need to stop dropping so many passes but overall we were in it until the end.

Heartbreaking but much better compared to last year

— Elliott B (@SconnieFanBoy93) October 29, 2023

Coaching showing through

No Chez Mellusi. No Tanner Mordecai. No Braelon Allen and Chimere Dike in the second half. And you take Ohio State to the wire? The future is very bright.

— Bill Pfeiffer (@billt209) October 29, 2023

Long live the bowl streak

Our D showed up for most of the game. Locke has improved and I like what I’m seeing. 5-3 overall isn’t too bad. The rest of the games are winnable. Just 1 more win to be bowl eligible but I can see them winning 3 of the last 4

— Timothy Zoromski (@timothyzoromski) October 29, 2023

An astute observation

The team is undermanned, yet still fights. Last year's team quit and rolled over against these last two teams. This one didn't. I'm excited to see what this can become when Luke gets his players in. Previous regime left a severe lack of talent on both sides of the ball.

— Jason Falkinham (@GoBucky1) October 29, 2023

Give the trainers a raise

I’m encouraged by the progress on both sides of the ball. If Badger fans thought this season wasn’t going to have bumps along the way, then they weren’t being realistic. It’s going to be tough winning the next 4 games if we don’t get people healthy.

— Doug Noble (@DNobs80) October 29, 2023

Needed riverboat Ron Rivera

Why kick a field goal at the one yard line? Come on?!

— Shawn W. Pfaff (@FitchburgShawn) October 29, 2023

Good summary

Considering OSU has mostly 4 or 5 star players, I thought our defense was stellar.
Locke has guts and hung in there but the receivers had a hard time catching the ball - lost way too many opportunities. Need some new goal line plays - have to get the TD when playing OSU

— Mary Korn Erickson (@sixtiesfan) October 29, 2023

No moral victories but a moral victory for the season?

Defense looked good. Need to clean up the turnovers and fix this offense. Moral victories do not exist. Bring the axe back home and I’ll call it a successful season.

— Eric Eichelt (@EricEichelt) October 29, 2023

Smells like progress

Actually looked better than I expected. Still plenty of room to improve, but they're heading in the right direction.

— Brad Miller (@BradMiller_WX) October 29, 2023

That's a good sign, right?

Why did I think Locke’s stats would be better than they were?

— WakeTheBadgers (@WakeBadgers) October 29, 2023

Unleash the Air Raid

Locke future. Bell can sit on bench. D played well and our qb is better. No RB depth is a huge concern

— ChazB (@chazb33) October 29, 2023

A mighty hook

Covered +14.5!

— Staben (@John_Nolan22) October 29, 2023

A fall classic

Every throw is a fastball.

— Nick Weisheipl (@CoachWeisheipl) October 29, 2023

Check, check, check ...

Fought hard
Never gave in

Entertaining game
Improving now
Confident kids

Talent mismatch currently
Future looks encouraging

— Malcolm Crennell (@Ma_X3_kiteFam) October 29, 2023

Over/under?

Locke is going to win a lot of games at UW

— Tim Barman (@TimBarman1) October 29, 2023

Now that is analysis

Locke is only 19 years old and he has an NFL arm and Favre like moxie. The future is very bright in Buckyland.

— Bill Ellingson (@Badgerfan10) October 29, 2023

Bold

Best game I’ve seen the Badgers play since 2019

— Joe Casabonne (@joe_casabonne) October 29, 2023

Spain without the 'S'

It hurts to see Hinzmann starting at center for OSU. For years we rarely lost those type of linemen.

— Steven Smith (@SteveSUWbba) October 29, 2023

TEAM at LEO

Let’s win next week
