Wisconsin football fans don't see improvement in comeback win vs. Western Michigan

  • AFerguson
  • Aug 31, 2024
  • Aug 31, 2024 Updated Sep 3, 2024

The Badgers' offense moved the ball at a lull-you-to-sleep pace but fourth-quarter urgency provided a glimpse of what could be.

Hey, Siri

Did we win?

— Ryan Gibbons (@gibinthegrove) August 31, 2024

Thank you

A hard fought win, next

— Casey Ward (@Badgerbydesign) August 31, 2024

Row the ... oh, wait

We would be a great MAC team. Dominant.

— Russ Evansen (@waunaruss) August 31, 2024

Friday night scares

They almost ruined a 3 day weekend.

— Ben Patton (@BenjaminP32) August 31, 2024

1-0

it’s over.

— kyle, everton fan (@kyleinmke) August 31, 2024

At the end of the day ...

— Myles Teteak (@MylesTeteak) August 31, 2024

Well, they are undefeated!

The move is supposed to put us in a better position to compete for National Championships, not seeing it.

— Trent Probst (@coachprobst) August 31, 2024

Red zone = defensive warning, not Wisconsin's offense

Almost feels like a loss. So many things to work on. Very fortunate for the punt mishap or who knows what would have happened. Trech needs more PT. Chez all heart and effort. Wohler strong. Offense still can’t score in red zone.

— Chris Davis (@cdavis20000) August 31, 2024

I, um, agree. Red-zone efficiency was the difference

Soooo many people overreacting about their performance. If the offense converts in the red zone this game is a blow out of the Badgers. They had 27 first downs and 388 total yards. It’s just the first game and this team will be fun to watch when they get it clicking.

— Nicholas Daniel (@PackerNick1991) August 31, 2024

All fair

Well, I think the Defense played a decent game. I have to give Buckley credit. He is a good RB. But Longo seemed to be 1000% conservative. The offense needs so much work. They have 1 more game to get it going before Bama comes to town. I will be at the game.

— Nate Samplawski (@bigdog54768) August 31, 2024

Are we surprised anymore?

Not the first game performance in year 2 we were all looking for

— Fred Ehle (@FredEhle) August 31, 2024

Staffing changes needed?

Fire Tressel beg Jimmy

— BadgerBro614 (@BBro614) August 31, 2024

Probably some jitters, I agree

1st game and played like it. We’ll see after a few more games.

— Censete Libere (Think Freely) 🇺🇸🇺🇦 (@CenseteLibere) August 31, 2024

I can hear a high school coach yelling, "TEMPOOOO! TEMPOOOO!"

Play with a sense of urgency for 4 entire quarters, not JUST the 4th quarter, and you may win 7 or 8 games.

Play like you did the first 3 quarters, you might lose 10 games.

Offense HAS to get better, right?!? Didn't see much creativity tonight.

— seanu82766@gmail.com (@seanu82766) August 31, 2024

Can't or unwilling?

Still can’t throw the ball down the field and that is a concern.

— Jim (@Bigtenman77) August 31, 2024

Seems familiar

No pass rush, poor run defense, bad red zone offense , no downfield completions, no explosive plays, critical missed tackles on 3rd and fourth down.

— John Schneider (@SchneiderJ70517) August 31, 2024

This is a fair evaluation

This game feels like déjà vu-still lacking impact playmakers. TVD shows potential but takes far too many risks. The offensive line avoided penalties and allowed just one sack, but their overall performance against a weaker opponent was far from impressive. Its a win though.

— Wisconsinsane (@wisconsinsane) August 31, 2024

This type of evaluation needed later, too

Avoided disaster, but at least we consistently moved the chains. Better than the 3 and out sickness from last year (grasping for straws a bit here I realize)

— Robinson Muff-Potter (@RMuff_Potter) August 31, 2024

Solid pieces for sure

Sloppy but the pieces are there. Get in sync.
Walker is a Tank, TVD brings a good dynamic to the offense.
Defense tightened up when we needed them. #Badgers

— Jon (@jon_jandrin) August 31, 2024

I often was surprised they weren't up more

Strange game. They moved the ball very slowly but did move the ball. Red zone offense was subpar. D-Line is worrisome.

— Jonny G (@Jo_Nathan_0907) August 31, 2024

Do they?

Paul Chryst coached team loses that game.

— Robert from Wisconsin (@Rob_In_WI) August 31, 2024

Takes time to build up to contender status, no?

We are the same mediocre program we have been since the 2020 Rose Bowl. Another in a long string of underwhelming victories.

— Craig Smith (@smithcp1) August 31, 2024

Yeah, he's a good player

Gonna need to produce some explosives on offense. Oh, Trech needs more touches.

— Brett Schaal (@StillVertical84) August 31, 2024

A true dairy raid is between the tackles, I guess

This offense could be decent if they convert in the red zone. My god Longo use some pre snap motion, jet sweep/fakes, run outside instead of up the middle every single time. Create deception. The dc needs to stop his obsession with only 2 interior DL. You need 3+ at all times

— GetAJobYouBum (@Jobo512) August 31, 2024

Saving sprinkles for the Tide?!?

Badgers had several long drives in the 1st half. Van Dyke managed the game well. Are they playing a vanilla offense until the Alabama game in two weeks? A lot of questions fans have will be answered by then.

— Jeff Ostach☮️ (@jeff_ostach) August 31, 2024

Maybe they'll play up to Bama!?

I told my brother that I don’t want to see a stagnant first half and it was worse! Missed chip shot field goal, poor D, and just lame. I wanted to see a confident dominant team. It’s a bad Mac team, not Alabama. 🙄

— Mark (@badgerfanaz) August 31, 2024

I hope everyone has an enjoyable time

Not really sold on the direction. Hope the kids have a great experience and are treated kindly.

— Kevin Fease (@KevinFease) August 31, 2024

No. 1 in the standings

Everything seems off, slow, not strong…trenches are key…OL still not old school badger dominant. Def Line to small. Where is the air raid? Use the freshman…would love to see freshman running backs. Use #2 on offense ALOT!!! Otherwise Best team ever

— aarondentz (@aarondentz) August 31, 2024

Wipe or, dare I say, roll?

Well, good news is we have great running backs and receivers and we won. Bad news is our quarterback, O - line, defensive line have a lot of work to do. If we don’t improve, Alabama will wipe the “turf” with us.

— Mary Korn Erickson (@sixtiesfan) August 31, 2024

Next week will be telling, and the week after next

The biggest improvements come from game 1 to game 2. There is a lot of things to clean up on both sides of the ball but it’s too early to say where this team is headed
