As we emerge from our Thanksgiving food hangover, the Week 13 NFL slate offers up another full menu.
And it doesn’t get any bigger or better than an NFC Championship Game rematch between the two best teams in the conference again this year: the Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers.
That’s where we’ll focus our attention here at FrontPageBets in our weekly picks and predictions.
For just the second time this season and the third time in the last two years, the Philadelphia Eagles are an underdog.
The team with the best record in the NFL at 10-1 enters Sunday’s game against San Francisco as a 3-point dog, leaving the 49ers as the only team to be favored so far in every game of 2023.
The Eagles are 7-2-2 against the spread this year, with their 77.8% winning percentage the best in the NFL.
The Niners are 6-5 ATS, covering only twice in their last six games. The 3-points San Francisco is giving Philly is tied for the second-shortest spread it has given all season. In Week 1, the 49ers were 1-point favorites against Pittsburgh in a game in which they won 30-7. Then, three weeks ago against Jacksonville they entered at -3 and won 34-3.
At 8-3, the 49ers lead the NFC West and have seemed to have found something since their bye at the beginning of November. After winning the first five games of the season, San Fran lost three in a row to close out October.
But, after the bye in Week 9, the 49ers have won three in a row by an average score of 30-10.
Let’s not, however, crown San Francisco the winner of their blockbuster Week 13 game against the defending NFC champs just yet.
Aside from its loss to the Jets in Week 6, the Eagles have been getting better and better facing a pretty difficult five-game stretch where they played – and beat – the Miami Dolphins, Washington Commanders, Dallas Cowboys, Kansas City Chiefs and Buffalo Bills. Taking out the Commanders, the teams the Eagles beat during that run are a combined 30-15 and are in the top two of their respective divisions.
Simply put, Philly is the class of the NFC.
But … San Francisco might be the better team on this particular night, especially with the Eagles coming off an emotional overtime win against the Bills last Sunday. That’s why we’re going with the Niners.
Oh, and one more thing when looking at the Week 13 slate: when looking to bet the Over/Under in a primetime game, go with the Under. In 39 primetime games this season – Thursday, Sunday and Monday night matchups – the Under is 29-10 (that’s almost 75%). And on Monday Night Football, the Under is 13-1.
Just sayin’.
Now … on to the picks!
