No. 1 post position: Dornoch betting odds (20/1 or better)
Dornoch missed the board for the first time in his career at the Blue Grass Stakes, but consistently posted Brisnet Speed Figures in the mid-to-upper 90s.
No. 2 post position: Sierra Leone betting odds (3/1 or better)
Sierra Leone is a rising star in the racing world, coming off a convincing win at the Blue Grass Stakes. In four career starts, he has three first-place finishes and one second.
No. 3 post position: Mystik Dan betting odds (20/1 or better)
Mystik Dan had an impressive win in the muck at the Southwest Stakes in Arkansas back in February. While he’s best suited for shorter tracks, he does have upset potential, especially if it rains.
No. 4 post position: Catching Freedom betting odds (8/1 or better)
A last to first victory at the Louisiana Derby put Catching Freedom on the map as a true contender for the Kentucky Derby. The colt won by a length after trailing by 2.5 lengths at the eighth pole. Catching Freedom has three wins in five career starts.
No. 5 post position: Catalytic betting odds (30/1 or better)
Catalytic overachieved on his 29-1 odds and finished second in the Curlin Florida Derby on March 30. In three career starts, he has one win and two seconds.
No. 6 post position: Just Steel betting odds (20/1 or better)
Just Steel is the most experienced horse at the Kentucky Derby with a whopping 11 career starts. He’s trained by Hall of Famer D. Wayne Lukas, who is back at the Derby for the first time since 2018.
No. 7 post position: Honor Marie betting odds (20/1 or better)
Honor Marie is a notch below the top-tier horses but can be seen as a viable long shot. He won his debut race last September at Churchill.
No. 8 post position: Just a Touch betting odds (10/1 or better)
Just a Touch is an inexperienced horse with just three races under his belt. However, so was Justify, who went on to win the Triple Crown in 2018.
No. 9 post position: Encino betting odds (20/1 or better)
No. 10 post position: T O Password betting odds (30/1 or better)
T O Password earned a spot in the Derby by racking up the most points in the Japan Road to the Kentucky Derby series. He’s won his only two starts on American soil.
No. 11 post position: Forever Young betting odds (10/1 or better)
Forever Young hails from Japan and is undefeated in five starts. He punched his Kentucky Derby ticket with a win at the UAE Derby. It will be challenging to manage the horse’s condition on its journey from Dubai to Kentucky, which has been proven in the past. None of the 19 past UAE Derby winners have finished better than 5th at the Run for the Roses.
No. 12 post position: Track Phantom betting odds (20/1 or better)
Track Phantom won at Gun Runner S. and Lecomte on the Road to the Kentucky Derby, but there are questions about his stamina. He finished second in the 1 1/8-mile Risen Star and fourth in the 1 3/16-mile Louisiana Derby.

No. 13 post position: West Saratoga betting odds (50/1 or better)
West Saratoga is the second-most experienced horse at the Kentucky Derby with 10 career starts (2 wins, 5 seconds, 1 third). Owner Harry Veruchi and trainer Larry Demeritte are making their first appearance at the Derby.
No. 14 post position: Endlessly betting odds (30/1 or better)
Endlessly has five wins in six career starts. However, all his wins have come on turf courses or all-weather surfaces
No. 15 post position: Domestic Product betting odds (30/1 or better)
Domestic Product will be ridden by five-time Eclipse Award-winning jockey Irad Ortiz Jr. and is trained by the legendary Chad Brown.
No. 16 post position: Grand Mo the First (50/1 or better)
No. 17 post position: Fierceness betting odds (5/2 or better)
Fierceness is the odds-on favorite to win the Run for the Roses at 3-1. Fresh off a win at the Florida Derby, Fierceness was also the Juvenile Champion in 2023. He’s won three of his five career races and comes out of Repole Stable.
No. 18 post position: Stronghold betting odds (35/1 or better)
Stronghold has three wins and three seconds in six career starts. He’s the only Californian contender this year and is coming off a win on April 6 at the Santa Anita Derby.
No. 19 post position: Resilience betting odds (20/1 or better)
Resilience has been on a solid trajectory in 2024 and has a good chance of hitting the board if he continues this pace. He enters off of a 2 ¼-length win in the Wood Memorial Stakes Presented by Resorts World Casino on April 6.
No. 20 post position: Society Man betting odds (50/1 or better)
Deterministic was bred in Kentucky and has won two of three career starts. The colt is owned by Ken Langone and trained by Christophe Clement.
2024 Kentucky Derby best bets: Sierra Leone (7/2 or better)
Sierra Leone has put together a near-perfect race record through four career starts. His only loss came by a nose to Kentucky Derby competitor Dornoch in the Remsen Stakes. Leone has won both of his starts this year and finished atop the Kentucky Derby Prep Race Leaderboard. His pedigree is unmatched, as is his closing speed which should be on display at the Kentucky Derby.
