This will be No. 7 Penn State’s annual White Out game at Beaver Stadium. Both teams are 3-0 and Iowa is ranked 24th. Read below for our Iowa vs. Penn State odds, picks, and predictions.
Iowa vs. Penn State odds, preview and prediction: Penn State (-630 ML or better)
Penn State forced five turnovers in last week’s 30-13 victory at Illinois. Sophomore quarterback Drew Allar has matched his high school hype and turned what could have been a Nittany Lions weakness into a strength.
Allar is 59-of-88 passing for 737 yards, four touchdowns and no interceptions.
Penn State’s defense, a traditional strength of the Nittany Lions, is ranked 16th in the country, allowing only 267.3 yards per game.
Iowa’s strength also is on defense, ranking 31st with 286 yards allowed per game. Iowa has the 13th-worst offense in the country at 302 yards per game.
Iowa quarterback Cade McNamara, a Michigan transfer, is in his first year with the Hawkeyes. McNamara threw two touchdown passes and running back Leshon Williams gained 145 yards on 12 carries in Iowa’s 41-10 victory over Western Michigan last week.
In the last meeting in 2021, Penn State lost to the Hawkeyes, 23-20, after jumping out to a 17-3 lead. The series is close, with Penn State ahead, 17-14. The series is tied, 11-11, in Big Ten games.
Four of the last five meetings have come down to one possession, with Penn State winning three of the five. Iowa is 7-2 against the spread in its last nine games. Penn State is 9-0-1 against the spread in its last 10 games.
Iowa almost always plays Penn State tough. However, the Nittany Lions have too much on both sides of the ball and look like the winning team, and the team that covers the spread.
