Chicago quarterback Justin Fields enters his third season with the Bears with high hopes.
The Chicago Bears were putrid in 2022, finishing with a league-worst 3-14 record.
When you hold the worst record from the previous year, there’s nowhere to go but up … right?
2023 Chicago Bears win total props: Under 7.5 wins (+100 or better)
Existing in a Aaron Rodgers-less NFC North certainly bodes well for Chicago’s hopes, but they’ll need a prove-it performance from quarterback Justin Fields to show that he’s the long-term answer under center.Â
The Chicago Bears were blessed with one of the easier strength of schedule slates at 26th, but is that alone enough to carry them over 7.5 wins on the season?
Not a chance. The Bears will need a statement season from Fields.
Entering into his third NFL season, Fields has shown flashes of the dominant player that he was at Ohio State.
He finished last year with 2,242 passing yards and 17 passing touchdowns, which pairs nicely with his 1,143 rushing yards and eight touchdowns on the ground.
A dynamic dual-threat QB, Fields is now assigned his most difficult task to date: Lifting Chicago out of the cellar.
The Bears’ last winning season came in 2018 when they claimed the NFC North crown. Since then it’s been a mix of mediocrity, and more recently, abject awful.
This proud franchise turns its lonely eyes to Fields to prove that he is indeed their quarterback of the future – and validate the Bears’ decision to trade away the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NFL Draft.
As for that fateful trade, Chicago did bring in significant help for Fields in the form of wide receiver D.J. Moore (courtesy of the pre-draft trade with Carolina). Chicago ranked dead-last in the league last year in receiving yards with 2,598, so any help is welcome – especially in the form of a player of Moore’s caliber.
They also added touchdown machine tight end Robert Tonyan to boost red zone passing production, which is certainly welcome.
Navigating its schedule, however, while 7.5 wins looks possible, +100 on the under feels right for a squad that still might be a year or so away from really competing.
2023 Chicago Bears futures: More Bears odds for the upcoming season
In addition to their win total, there are more futures available for the Bears for the upcoming season, including:
2023 Justin Field props: Over 2,775.5 yards (-112 or better)
Fields missed two games in 2022 due to injury, and combined with woeful receiving he finished with 2,242 passing yards.
It stands to reason that a healthy Fields, along with the addition of wide receiver D.J. Moore, should eclipse 2,775.5 yards in the air.
2023 D.J. Moore props: Over 800.5 receiving yards (-112 or better)
Wide receiver D.J. Moore has only ever had two sub-1,000 yard seasons: In 2018 as a rookie, and in 2022 with a ramshackle cast of quarterbacks. Notching north of 800.5 receiving yards should not be an issue.
2023 Bears playoffs odds: To make the playoffs (+172 or better)
Should everything go according to plan for the Bears, it’s reasonable to envision them sneaking into a Wild Card spot.
