I understand that the Republicans in the Wisconsin Legislature submitted a bill that would call for the death penalty in cases against people who commit sex crimes against children under 13 years of age.
Iran basically declared war on the United States in 1979 by taking its embassy, keeping America hostage for over a year, and then by attacking America's assets by proxy for almost 50 years. The Iranian government professes “death to America.” Are we really going to allow Iran to get nuclear weapons?
Recently, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth announced with pride, “I only speak American.” This statement caused me to pause and ask myself, what is Secretary Hegseth saying?
Apparently, the strain on UW-Madison's athletic department is so great that some sports programs may need to be cut. According to Jim Polzin's March 6 column in the Wisconsin State Journal, Athletic Director Chris McIntosh says that without an additional $14.6 million from the state Legislat…
Interestingly enough, President Donald Trump back in 2011 decried and criticized President Barack Obama over the prospect of starting a war with Iran for political reasons so that he could get reelected in 2012. Also, Trump suggested Obama would start the war because of his inability to nego…
The U.S. has now begun a war with Iran. This follows attacks on Venezuela and alleged drug boats in the Caribbean.
Millions of Americans are reaching out to their friends, neighbors and needy strangers. They are:
I am a family physician in rural Wisconsin.
The April 7 Supreme Court election doesn't have an incumbent because Justice Rebecca Bradley announced she wouldn't seek reelection.
It is becoming readily apparent that the Trump administration is only interested in glorifying and enriching itself, destroying the rule of law, promoting con artists, protecting pedophiles, alienating our allies and degrading the Earth as fast as possible.
After serving more than three decades in the Air Force, I’ve lived in places across the country and around the world. Everywhere I went, I saw how a home team can unify a community.
The state Assembly last week passed Assembly Bill 1034 on a 95-1 vote. The bill provides $14.6 million in taxpayer funds to UW-Madison, ostensibly for maintenance and debt service on athletic facilities. But it is described as a "name, image and likeness" bill because it frees up money for NIL and permits the university to remain quiet on its NIL payments to athletes.
Hyperscale data centers are a hot topic in Wisconsin, especially since the Wisconsin Legislature passed tax incentives for them in 2023. Controversy stems from the scale of the energy and water they use, as well as noise, air and light pollution. To add insult to injury, after providing tax exemptions (coming from taxpayer dollars), these projects have a history of spreading their costs and risks across existing ratepayers.
What is fear doing to us and the boundaries we expect government to respect?
Regarding the state Legislature's plan to adjourn early this year, I would like to remind our representatives that we elected them to be the voice of the people in Wisconsin.
Because the "name, image and likeness" system has made college athletics into a minor league system for professional teams, I suggest that a compensation system to colleges should be established.
The United States has about 14,000 public school boards, including about 400 in Wisconsin. Locally elected representatives use these influential entities to govern school districts. Contentious elections trigger seismic shifts in administrative style and policy.
To everyone riding high on the record stock market, I offer this:
In his response to President Donald Trump’s unconstitutional proposal for the federal government to take over all national elections, U.S. Sen. Ron Johnson, R-Oshkosh, said in part: “I do believe it's fitting and proper to set some basic standards for federal elections, like only citizens can vote.”
Despite allegations of voter fraud by President Donald Trump and his sycophants, which have failed in over 60 court cases, he continues his mission to gain control over elections.
Imagine living your entire life in a small cage with your loved ones caged all around you. Meanwhile, you are being used for horrific, fear-producing experiments that are no longer needed due to advances in science.
In recent weeks, I have had the privilege to join with and stand in sub-zero temperatures among those peacefully protesting the current administration’s immigration policies and gestapo tactics.

Many people in Beaver Dam may not realize that a second data center is being considered for our city. Before this moves forward, residents deserve to understand how these projects affect our daily lives.
Rob Reiner’s death is heartbreaking—and deeply instructive. Known to many as “Meathead” from *All in the Family*, Reiner grew into a humanist who championed civil rights, early childhood development, and policies that put compassion into law. Through films like *Being Charlie*—a love letter to his son struggling with addiction—he showed evidence and empathy belong together.
While sitting in my parlor, I heard a sudden rattle at the mailbox door. I got up to check the commotion and found an envelope addressed to me. I thought it was a holiday greeting, but it was just my property tax bill.
I would like to thank everyone from Kenosha and the surrounding area who donated non-perishable food items of nearly one thousand pounds and cash and checks totaling over $1,300 to my 20th annual food drive for the Shalom Center on Dec. 20.
Before Bob Tierney and Sabrina Landry were elected to the Kenosha Unified School District Board, agenda review meetings were held privately by the superintendent with one or two board members, outside the view of the public. By contrast, Racine Unified holds its agenda review meetings openly, allowing community members to see how decisions are shaped before votes are taken.
The Assessor’s Office on May 3 mailed 23,450 assessment notices that show an average value increase of 10% for residential properties throughout the City of Racine.
One the biggest reasons for rental and home price increases is that the middle class no longer owns a majority of them as them like they did decades ago when I was growing up.
Generosity throughout Kenosha contributed to a successful shoebox gift collection season at drop-off locations for the Samaritan’s Purse project Operation Christmas Child. Across the U.S., the project collected 10 million shoebox gifts in 2023.
