Amtrak debuted its new Borealis train on May 21, 2024. The commuter route connects St. Paul with Chicago and offers a second passenger service option along part of Amtrak’s existing Empire Builder route. The Borealis train includes stops in Red Wing and Winona in Minnesota and La Crosse, Tomah, Wisconsin Dells, Portage, Columbus Milwaukee, Milwaukee airport and Sturtevant in Wisconsin as well as Glenview in Illinois.
